With a cam of that size and depending on your compression you should be able to run some good timing. 30 degrees plus I would think.. The problem comes in with a loss in lowend power. W/out 4.10 gears.. I would think the car would not respond well below 4500rpm.. With just my 226 cam I noticed that, but also I am having tuning issues and that will be resolved on the 23rd of this month..

30 degrees plus! WOW! I am running 29 degrees and am debating on if I should bump it up or not. Why should you run soo much timing?

P to V clearance should be ok, assuming minimal was taken off. I guess ARE likes the big ones, as I'll be trying the 230/236 XE-R on a 112 soon. Lift in the 600 range.

I'm running a 228 228 588 588 on a 111.5. The cam peaks around 6400 or so. Here's the graph

I'll be trying a 228/228 XE-R on a 111 LSA VERY soon. We'll see how it compares power-wise and ET-wise to my 224/224 XE-R on a 112 LSA. The 228/228 will have 3 degrees of advance vs. my 224/224 with 2 degrees. I expect the peak to be lower than my current 6,550 RPM with the 224/224. I'll post the results after I've dynoed and made some runs at the track.

I think a 230/230 @ 114 LSA advance 4 degrees would be a fantastic cam.

Several mentions have been made to advancing the camshaft 4 degrees or so which lowers the peaks and RPM band.

The 230 duration should make optimum power with stock heads. The 114 LSA will provide a wide power band and improve the idle. Advancing the cam a few degrees will keep all the power in a reasonable RPM range.
