New Dyno #'s FMS 346 ci Solid Roller / LS6 Heads
Finally got the new setup dyoned and tuned out today.
Old setup was:
Wiseco Pistons/Lunati Pro Mod Rods 6.125"
FMS/Meaux Racing stage 2 LS1 heads 2.055/1.600 ~ 11.5 CR
FMS Solid Roller cam 236/241 .680/.680 112 LS
T&D 1.7 rockers
FMS Custom Step Headers 1 3/4" - 1 7/8"
Thru 3" ORP and 3.5" cutout
Strange 12 bolt & Posi w/4.56 gears
ACPT CF driveshaft (9 lbs)
Dynoed at MTI 1/25/02
460 rwhp / 418 rwtq SAE corrected
Peaked at 6500 rpm - Rev limiter set at 7200 rpm
New setup:
Wiseco Pistons/Lunati Pro Mod Rods 6.125"
FMS/Meaux Racing stage 2 LS6 heads 2.055/1.600 ~ 12.5 CR
FMS Solid Roller cam 245/251 .735/.740 113 LS w/
Custom T&D 1.8 rockers
FMS Custom Step Headers 1 3/4" - 1 7/8"
Thru 3" bullet mufflers on the headers (sounds awesome)
Strange 12 bolt w/Spool & 4.88 Pro gears
Strange Chromoly Steel Driveshaft (22 lbs)
Dynoed at Thunder Racing 9/13/02
461.6 rwhp / 388.0 rwtq SAE corrected
Peaked at 7100 rpm - Rev limiter set at 7800 rpm
As you can see, I lost some torque, but gained alot on the top end! That's the price you pay to have a high revin' motor.
I'm very pleased, even though it doesnt look like I gained much, I did because the 4.88 gears and the chromoly DS cost me some HP, and it's hard to really compare between the two because each setup was dyoned on different dyno's.
Thanks to Allan Futral at Futral Motorsports for totaly rebuilding the motor, all new bearings & rings, etc, etc, and making sure everything was right, he went above and beyond the call of duty!
The dry sump oiling system is no longer on the car, in it's place is a Moroso Vacum pump.
Removing the dry sump system saved me 70 lbs.
Overall, the car in full race setup is about 105 lbs lighter then the old setup was.
Also thanks to Geoff Skinner at Thunder Racing for allowing me to dyno my car there and for letting Allan tune it out with Allan's LS1 Edit.
Thanks Geoff, I really appreciate it!
Oh and thanks for those 50% off coupons too, I will put them to good use!
Jason, if you wouldn't mind.
Could you post my dyno graph in this thread for me? Thanks.
Ok, so the motor is tuned out and ready to hit the track! Weather permitting I'm planning on going to NPR on Wed the 18th, for a little T&T session.

Very impressive Gordon! Congrats on some great numbers, especially for a 346ci.
Scan the graph and email it to me. I'll be glad to post it.
Your setup has got me rethinking some things.... lol

I don't understand, you gained no HP and lost a load of torque.
Is it because of the different rpm's, explain so I understand why this is a good thing.
Thanks

It was built with a specific RPM range it needed to work in (5000-7500). Whatever torque he lost, he made it up with the added gearing. His car will never see anything under 5k rpms at the track leaving the line at 7000 rpms. The power he is making under 5k is pretty pointless.
Also, the added gearing and heavy driveshaft didn't help the new dyno #s.
Another thing too.. the correction factor was a little wacky at MTI last time. So, you really can't look at the previous dyno #s with much faith. It still put down 45xrwhp uncorrected there.

Re: New Dyno #'s FMS 346 ci Solid Roller / LS6 Heads
Quickin,
Jason took the words right out of my mouth.
He is correct in what he said.
Also, switching from 4.56 gears to 4.88 gears is about a 5 hp loss, and the difference between the weight of the two driveshafts is roughly about a 8 hp loss or there abouts. Which is rotational mass.
The chromoly steel driveshaft hurt on the dyno, but it was done to prevent future problems at the track... it's one place where you have to add weight for reliability... dont mind giving up some hp for strength.
And remember my peak hp is now at 7100 rpm which means I'll be shifting it at 7500-7600 rpm.
Also the motor was completly rebuilt, new rings, bearings, it only had 10 or so miles on it when I took it to be dynoed, so once I get some more miles on it(1/4 mile at a time) it will loosen up even more and should gain a few hp there.
hondakiller,
I'm running the LS6 intake.

Thats awesome Gordon! Kind of makes me wonder how much potential I'm leaving on the table with my hydraulic cam. Solid roller 434ci sure does sound nice! I guess that is my next logical step power-wise.
You and Allan keep up the awesome work!

Re: New Dyno #'s FMS 346 ci Solid Roller / LS6 Heads
Sounds awesome Gordon! I'm sure you're going to like the new setup. Sounds similar to what I was originally doing before the big-bore "happened."
That's a ton of lift on that cam! I thought I was getting up there with .660/.667.
You're getting up there with the compression, too. What kind of fuel are you using? Still have the O2's on the car?
I'll be looking forward to your track results next week.

VINCE,the heads flow up to .800"
Gordon,the torque figure isn't a good repensation with the 4.88's,really throw's off the numbers.I think the 4.56 to 4.88 is closer to 8-10 loss,guessing
Jason,if Gordon can't scan it,I will have it on the website soon

Thanks George,
I'm running VP 103 octane unleaded race fuel.
Yep, still got the O2's on the car.
Allan,
I don't have a scanner, Jason said he would post it on the thread tomorrow when he get's to Thunder.
And yeah, I was guessing on the hp loss from the gear swap. I like your guess better!
