Default Change lifters with heads/cam?

Car is a 98ss w/40k miles. Just wondered if changing the lifters would be a good idea while it's all tore down. Also how do you check a lifter? I missed a shift bad and wonder if they could be damaged.

You may as well for the extra 10 mins. and $155 (Valvegod)that it will take. I did, and now I have one thing less to worry about. You may as well change these items:
1)T-chain for a Katech
2)Oil pump for a Katech
3)lifters
4 Pushrods
