Default Hot cam question

Would it be a bad idea to get the GM hot cam installed while working with the stock manifolds instead of a LT headers?

The long split on the hotcam will work to help overcome stock manifolds breathing. I think it would work better with a couple degrees of advance. You'll also have some tuning challenges on an A4 with a stock converter. I'd think through your plan before buying.

With stock manifolds, a 0 overlap at .05 cam is plenty big.

it depends on what you're going for, if you're trying to be fast LTs would be a better idea... but if you are wanting your car to sound cool the hotcam would be alright.
i've ran a hotcam before, you will need to get the car dyno tuned in the not-so-distant future.

Well basically I want to get around 400 hp when im done. But for now im looking at getting at least around 360, later I will add LTs but i have about $900 in my pocket and just want something to take me a bit closer to 400 without going to far above.

You might even be able to run 1.8 or 1.85 rockers with the hot cam if the lobes aren't really that aggressive. That would increase the lift up to .555 or .571 depending on which you one you go with.

You mention advance. Would you happen to know what the stock Hot Cam advance might be? Haven't yet found anyone that knows what it's ground to.

Thanks,

I believe that there is no advance in a hotcam. A cam doctor report is in the cam sticky up top, you can double check to be sure.
