Default new timing chain and oil pump? H/C questions

Is it necessary to install a new timing chain and a new oil pump when doing a heads/cam install?? I'm planning on going with a set of 5.3L stage 1 ported heads and a TR224 cam. Also, are the 918 springs safe to run, I hear of alot of you guys having trouble with them? Should I upgrade to dual springs? Aside from the cylinder head componets, will I need to upgrade anything else? Also, what length pushrods should I go with? Thanks in advance for the help. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

It is not 100% necessary to install a new timing set & oil pump when you do heads/cam on a LS1 but it is a good idea. There is hardly any extra labor involved and a new oil pump & timing chain are cheap insurance. Katech has good replacements or Thunder Racing can help you.

The 918's should be fine. The springs that broke were produced in a bad batch. Comp Cams is releasing a new batch soon. The new batch will have a blue stripe on the spring. If you want extra piece of mind and have the money, you can opt for the double springs.

Pushrod length will depend on the base circle of the cam & how much the heads are milled.
