Default GIANT cams...

With a Cartek S2 set of LS1 heads, all of the boltons including a ST3500, in an A4, how big of a cam can I go.
It WILL be tuned.
Not caring about emmissions.
I am limited to .580 lift

Don't say a 224/224, I know they rule, but I'm wondering what's the BIGGEST cam I could do to reap the MOST amount of HP.
School me.
Thanks
Nick

I have GTP S2 heads and a 226/226/591/591 112LSA in my A4. It runs great. Not track times yet, no idle problems.
I'm using the 918 springs.

Why are you limited to 580?

You can run as much intake duration as your PtoV clearance will allow. That depends a lot on valve size and milling of the heads.
You want about 80 thou clearance on the intake side to be safe.
Cheers,
Chris

My car's at Andy's Auto right now waiting for a 230/235 .591/.591 111. Stock 346 bottom end with AAP stage 3 6.0L's. I'll bet a big cam like that would be sweet with your heads especially if it's getting tuned.

I got the heads 100 miles used, so I have to find out from Cartek all the correct info. Where would my car shift with a cam like that and what kind of springs would I use.
Also, how much MORE HP would I gain with the 230/235 .591/.591 111 over a TR224??

Nick with a cam like that one you will for sure need to cut valve reliefs in your pistons, so I assume a shop will do the install?

I ran 600/605//236/240//111 and it needed reliefs cut in.

I'm gonna have Speed Inc install them.
What are the cons to a cam this large with the setup I may run?
What's involved in cutting the valves? Labor intensive as in quite a bit more $$$?

I am more so interested in the HP difference between a TR224 type cam and a monster cam like the one mentioned in my previous post.
With my setup, will a cam this large be worth it?
Thanks for the replies!

My cam is a 230/236 .510/.520 (yes, for a reason) 110 LSA. Sounds untuned are in my sig. When tuned, it should purr like a baby...or something like that. It's a TPI (kinda, well, it used to be), not an LS1.

Flycutting pistons is an extra step so all shops will have to charge something.

I've never really seen anyone sit down and show when big cams are too much for 346ci/3.900 LS1 motors... but I'll venture to say that anthing over 232/232 will not gain much over say a 228 duration cam... I'm going off of Fireball's #'s when he swithed out his MTI 232/232//112 for a MMS 229/229//112... he lost a little peak rwhp so the duration much be worth a few hp.
