Default Bad pulley harmonics breaking timing chains??

I've heard a few stories of aftermarket timing chains breaking due to aftermarket pullies.....

I have an ASP pulley set and am wondering what risk I run of breaking a timing chain, and if there are any aftermarket timing chains out there that have had problems dealing with the different harmonics, and which timing chains seem to have no problems.

Well, I've broken 2 in 2 years. Had the Whisper pulley (no balancer), now have ATI.

Some fellers like to say it's bouncing offa the rev limiter that's causing me grief, but I think it's at least a combo...

Have you found one yet that has worked better for you?

I'd add the new GM timing chain damper if you are in there. Help you sleep at night.

My first ASP pulley I bought used, and it was out of balance. The pulley itself was damaged, and I didn't notice the slight wobble it has until after 2 yrs of running it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> I had no chain breaks. Since then I have put a new ASP pulley on, and have no worries seeing that it's brand new and balanced.

I remember talking to Strope about this last year when I did my H/C setup. They had a couple dynos on cars running the ASP pully. They all showed a hp/tq dip at ~5700rpm due to a harmonic imbalance. The only pully they recommended was the ATI because it was a true damping mechanism. Take a look at your dyno pulls from Xtreme and see if you see this dip. If you do, I'd recommend swapping that bad-boy out.

Hmmm...maybe the ATI is something I should look into.

Funny. I just ordered an Alum ATI Super Damper here. Was hoping it would dampen things better and put less wear on my crank bearings since I'm going with a V2-SQ Vortech.

It's 2.5 lbs lighter than stock for whatever that's worth. Might rev a bit faster?

Just installed ASP pulley and no dips on my dyno graph <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
