Need Insurance info on Hydro-locked Engine
Does anyone know how Insurance Companies handle this type of thing and if they will even cover it? I have a $500 deductable on the car, so I'm hoping I will just have to pay the $500 and the insurance company will cover the rest.
Does any one know how this all normally works out, will the auto shop have to select the engine, will I get to, will it have to be a stock GM engine? Any information on how the process works, would be very helpful.
The Car is a 99 T/A

- They'd pay to have an engine from a salavage yard installed with about the same amount of miles.
- I could get a new block from GM, but I'd have to pay the difference between the first option and what GM wanted for the block
- I could get a check cut for all parts & labor to perform option 1, and do anything I wanted with it.
I chose the latter.
Those that had their engine's lockup and replaced, how was the replacement of engines handled? Did you get to basicly pick the engine or did they call say GM and have them send you a new engine? Or did they just go with what the auto shop stated and pay that amount minus the deductible?

Well back in 90 when this happened the car was very new so the dealer let the insurance company know its options eventually after talking with me and the dealer the dealer ordered in a "sert" engine I believe it was called !
It was a motor taken directly from the Van Nuys assembly line and shipped to dealer along with all new peripherals ie. water pump, a/c compressor, power steering pump, starter motor !
Well U get the idea !

That sucks! I hydrolocked my engine a year and a half ago (damn SLP cai kit) my insurance company covered it.

I'm amazed the SLP CAI did that as it doesn't stick down very far compared to the FTRA.
