He bolted down the rockers and turned it over....without the pedestal below the rockers.

I've been working on cars for the majority of my life, and I've done several head and cam swaps on LS1's, so it's safe to say I've taken the valvetrain apart many times. It was late, and I was in a hurry. I was rushing because I was excited to drive the car which I really hadn't driven since last august due to my wild west adventures and then winter. Now I wont be able to drive it for another 2 or 3 weeks at best.
I could see forgetting the rocker 'seats', or whatever they are called would cause a SERIOUS problem. But if the rocker got loose, the valve might not drop due to the retainer locks.

Death via hardened pushrods.

Rocket studs go through the head. They were down farther than they should be and punched the hole in the pistons, not the valves.

last time i checked the rocker studs go down into the intake runner... not into the combustion chamber.

I can see where the valves kissed the piston, but the melted through hole is very close to the spark plug.

My $.02 is that it is burn through from nitros.

I'm guessing that the intake vavle snapped, and on the next revolution, the valve stem punched the hole into the top of the piston.

Ouch, that sucks man. Good luck and keep your head up.

Good explanation, but I don't think for all the pistons that have damage in the same place, hoiwever, after rereading everything, you might be right if the valves are broken off.

Is the one picture of "half a piston"? That is, did you break off a piston also?
