Will Handzel's book "How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s" I have this book and it outlines a few setups. Good step by step instructions and good b+w pics. Great instructions for extracting the ls1. Also has some interesting info/ history of the gen 3 sbc. Its a good read and its fairly cheep.

I have that one also, it's a great book. It doesnt necessarily cover how to build the motor but does hit on every aspect of performance upgrades, all the free mods, as well as covering basic camshaft functions.
