Default How do i make an All bore 382 iron block ls1???

I get a 6.0 iron block, take my stock rods/crank with custom 4.030 forged pistons and ARP rod bolts and i have myself a nice 382 all bore motor for $1000-1500 in it?????? Sounds to good to be true.

I was wanting to squeeze approx 200-250 shot nitrous and have forged pistons, so selling my stock shortblock after i finish the iron block will pay for the upgrade.

Am i missing something here??? any other changes.

What will my budget $1500 shortblock, 230/224, 111 T.R. cam, ls6 intake, longtubes, and boltons make for horsepower? im hoping around 430 rwhp with converter locked, am i being realistic? this is all going in my C4 corvette (doing ls1 swap) which will weigh 2700 (now 2800 with iron block) without driver, with full weight, full interior.

This outta be too easy to go 9's with just a budget shortblock cam/intake with some spray. geeez....

Stock crank is only 3.62", and you will need 4.100" bore diameter to reach 382ci.

You could have the stock crank offset ground to get around 10 additional cubes, but that also weakens the crank a bit and will require custom rods (or thicker custom bearings)

The heads are the most important part of any engine, it might squeek out 400 rwhp without ported heads, but not as easily as you think unless you go with a huge cam and all the bolt-ons and tuning.

To get into the nines in a full weight C4, expect to require about 700 rwhp. I wouldn't push that much power on a stock crankshaft, at least for too long.

Hmmm so what CI do i get with stock crank un-ground with stock rods.

I see TONS of dyno graphs with 400-415 rwhp with just a cam/intake/bolt on setup, i think a all bore motor would make more power.

Hmmm 700 rwhp??????? WWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHATt no way. My car's race weight is only 2900 lbs WITH me. thats 600 less than most f-bodies. I really dont think itll need that kinda power period. Im thinking 550 rwhp will do 9's easily.

400+ rwhp with just a cam and bolt-ons is a rare exception, not the standard. Typical 346ci LS1s pull in the 365-380 rwhp range without ported heads.

Calculate displacement? Use this:

http://www.web-cars.com/math/displacement.html

with a 4.030" bore and 3.62" stroke, you get 369ci

550 rwhp will get you into the 9s if you can cut 1.3X 60' times with that independent rearend. 60' time has the most to do with ET. Is your car a manual or automatic? I'd expect a minimum of 650 rwhp with a 2900 lb independent rear street Corvette with a manual tranny.

All three of the high 9-second 6-speed LS1 C5s are in the 700 rwhp range, around 3150-3250 lbs.

Hmmm you got me thinking nineball. I really do wanna take your advice. I ran consistant 1.5 60 ft's before on 315/17 drag radials. I expect to easily run mid 1.4's now with my new 28x13.5x15 ET Street setup

You run a 10.6 @ 129 or so. 3600 lbs race weight with a 6-spd and a 1.49 60 ft?? at 524 rwhp.

Ok say we swap a TH350 into the car with a PT 4000 stall converter. What kinda ET gain would you expect? Id say 1-2 tenths? (not nearly as fun to drive of course)
Ok then we take your car and shave all the weight down to 2900 lbs. (600-700 lbs right there right?)

Now i think 600 lbs off your car is a SOLID half second. Your car is now in the 9's with less off the line launching torque (my nitrous car would leave harder i believe). and youve got 525 RWHP? now that puts you in the territory of me thinking i only need 550 rwhp? (with a 6-spd is 585 rwhp).
I run a dyno at our shop and see stuff like this all the time.

I built a 99 C5 last year that is a very mild CA smog legal car. It makes 375 rwhp (converter locked) with a Katech heads, ls6 intake, junk little smog cam. The car runs 12.2's @ 112 on the motor with 26x11.5 ET Streets through vigilante 3000, 3.42 gear. on the bottle (200 shot NX wet single fogger) it puts down 535 rwhp (locked) and runs 10.54@129 here with a 1.52 60 ft. This track isnt ideal its about a 2000 DA day.

Now his car would easily run a 10.39 with a Yank 4000 stall and more gear. Now this car also weighs 3500 with driver (250 lbs). So i dont think 9's is a 650+ rwhp car terroritory when you really start seeing the weight factor.

I would spend the extra 2K and get a forged 4.125 crank. Also I wouldnt bore more than .030 off the 6L block. That works out to ~422ci and an EXCELLENT nitrous motor for a good price <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Cheers,
Chris

Is there any cheaper alternatives to geting a 422 cube crank? I really cant force myself to spend that kinda money. Is there any additional machine work/clearancing or anything else that comes up when doing such a long stroke crank? Id like to do it but the crank is out of my price range.

2k for a crank! That kills the whole project budget idea.

I purchased my whole LS1 /w 6-speed for $3500. (accesories,wiring harness, computer etc).
Sold the 6-spd for $1750 (im down to 1750 in this thing)

Now i cant force myself to dump 2k into a crank when i can build a 6.0 all bore motor with forged pistons for $1500 and sell the stock LS1 shortblock for at LEAST $1000. and be in this thing almost no money at all.

any other cheap ideas?
