well bad news .... got the bolt in from gm and just tore it apart again to put that bolt in instead of the **modified** bolt .... the bolt was going in really good and then it hit a spot and clicked ... then it wouldn't tighten any farther after that .... stripped now what the hell do i do???

also after i took it out there seemed to be chunks of this stuff all over the bolt ... then a big one came out the last time ... is this bad too??? i'm sick of this damn car!!

i know this can't be good

You can have the holehelicoiled and have the proper sized bolt put in. Dont be sick of the car, it only does what the owner makes it do, no pun intended but thats just how it is. You should have cleaned that bolt hole out before you put the new bolt in. I bet that "modified" bolt wasnt the right thread for the hole.

I feel for ya man, dont get too distressed, **** happens, you will get it up and running eventually. just be sure to take your time and do everything right next time, no shortcuts or band aid fixes.

If you can use a helicoil, it won't take most of the summer to do it... To put a helicoil in only takes a few minutes.

If you are running a stock gasket then yes you will need a new gasket. You will also have to clean the **** out of the blocks deck surface. When you take the head in for work have them hot tank the head, that will make it spotless and save you the work of cleaning it. Also make sure you clean the **** out of and dry the head bolt holes. They need to be 100% clean and dry when you install the new head bolts, yes you need new head bolts too.

Exactly. I skipped responsed since this one, btw.

That bolt is grade 3, not that strong either. I had to helicoil -=Modified=-'s block on the lifter tray bolt. Works fine now. I'm not liking how aluminum threads..

Check this thread also. There are a bunch of responses in there about valve tick.. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...0&page=1&pp=20

-=Modified=-'s MS4 was ticking BAD too. We replaced the lifters and are in the slow process of replacing the oil pump pick up tube O ring and get a pushrod length checker in da mail to find out EXACTLY what length PR's we need. We went and tried three different length sizes and all of them tick. the 7.400's, 7.425's, and 7.375's (I believe, and were the WORST)...

would it hurt anything to keep the 7.4 pushrods in there ? or should i replace them with the 7.425??? power differences???

have been quoting local shops around here to do the helicoil and they are saying around 200 if they take off the head and everything ...

It's not a matter of power differances. It's a matter of CORRECT Valvetrain geometry.

Get the $20 Push Rod Length Checker and do it the right way.

What size HG again? You 'should' be good w/ the 7.4's unless you changed head gasket thickness. But measure to be sure.
