Rebuilding ls1, what cam?
Well the motor died on my 1999 trans am. Im having it rebuilt pretty well just to a new stock motor but wanted to add a cam while it was out and being rebuilt. Everything else is gonna be stock for now. Except exhaust lol. Anyways what all do I need to get for a different cam? And what cam/ size would be good to go with? Im new to the gas motor world
Someone else is rebuilding it, not me

Your not going to need anything special, really the standard 224 cam will fit very nicely with your combination. No matter what cam you choose youll need to upgrade to the matching valve springs. Pushrods are also a quick and easy upgrade at this point also.
I would go with somthing like a Comp Cams #54-426-11. 222/224 .566/.568 112LSA

Where would be the best place to get a cam and springs. Will I be able to drive it without getting it dyno tuned or what ever? Sorry if im asking dumb questions but i am new lol. Also will it sound any different with that cam?
Oh i do have a aftermarket auto tranny with a stall. I dont know if that matters lol.

you need to be more specific about what you want out of the car. Do you want a mild or wild cam? The more mild the cam the more likely you'll be able to get away without a tune however, I feel that ANY time you change a cam you should retune.

Look at Texas Speed for a nice Cam package. While you have the motor out, You might want to look at Poly motor mounts as well. Things usually done with a cam swap. Timing chain, Upgrade your oil pump, pushrods and valve springs. You will want to get it tuned ASAP!!!

i went through the same delima last year, and i went with a ms4 like cam..and i am now stepping down to a 228r or 230s cam..i like the high rev of my current setup, but im not there all the time..just food for thought

IMO, talk to Geoff at EPS, he'll get you what you want whether it's one of his regular cams,or a custom grind!

I would like to keep fairly decent fuel mileage and have just a nice power increase over the whole rpm range if possible. What would work good with my 2800 stall?
