Re: 400-436ci folks, Poll on AF ratios on dyno
John,
We have always found the gen3 motor to make it's best power at 13.2-13.4 with a wide band on the dyno. Mainly due to the "fast burn" combustion chambers. What a great head design!
However with a high end stroker motor, running a tad richer would not be a bad idea to keep it under control. I wouldn't go any richer then 13.0
I never liked looking at AutoTaps for o2 readings as they are only good at 14.7 +/- 5 % and vary from car to car.

Well, A/F is different at different rpms. You want to be a bit richer at peak TQ.
Anyway, if you wanna check mine out click on the dyno numbers in the sig for the graph….

<img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" /> JOHN!
I talked to Wade and he said he's talked to you about this. Your combo needs low-mid 12 A/F's! The car will run leaner at the track then on the dyno. If its starving so to speak you will not run the MPH... I would listen to your engine builder first <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Yeah I'm at 13:1 and the feeling is that it's too lean for the track under true load.
I'm planning to redyno with the new target AF that Wade suggested.

John B, there are not a lot of places where I can do a full on 1/4 blast near Chicago, and we are most concerned with 3rd gear high speed AF's... And I got arrested for 110/55 zone a few years ago so I don't screw around like I used to on the street.
Anyone else?

If you need to take a one hour cruise somewhere to get out "in the boon docks", these key data points in high gear will tell us plenty! Good luck!

Most stroker motors are usually setup for making big power. The compression is usualy bumped pretty good to make the numbers so we like to run them a bit richer to better control the cylinder temperatures. Kind of the same way a superchargered motors are setup at A/F's of 12.7-12.9 with an LS engine.
