TURBO MOTOR, aluminum or cast iron block?
I ordered a LS1 Motorsports Turbo kit and need to build a motor that can handle boost.
I currently have a ARE All Bore 378ci short-block(forged rods/GM crank) with MTI S2 heads.
My plan was to sell my current set-up complete and build a 6.0L iron block motor.
It would obviously be easiest just to drop some forged 8.75-9.0 CR pistons into my current motor but how much boost can it safely handle?
How much better is a 6.0L cast iron block over a sleeved 5.7 aluminum block assuming both have main/head studs and identical forged internals?
If I do decide to go with an iron block should I use my MTI S2 heads or use the LS6 based 6.0L heads.

Re: TURBO MOTOR, aluminum or cast iron block?
mines aluminum.. from what i have seen the iron blocks arent running any more hp sucessfully.
since you have to change heads i would get ported 6.0's or just leave them as-is.. the boost will make you much more power than porting will.
i also have the stock crank but pro billet rods/arp studs all over etc. ross pistions i do believe.

Re: TURBO MOTOR, aluminum or cast iron block?
In general, aluminum heads & block are preferable for forced induction applications. The heat-conducting properties of aluminum are better for controlling detonation.
I have two blown SBC engines, and also ran a Whipple blower on an 4.3L V6 for a couple of years. Most of my knowledge about blower motors came straight from the B&M handbooks, so check with your turbo manufacturer for their advice.
