Default Titanium Retainers vs. Stock ...

Seems like hype to me. If you use a 918 or similar spring that accepts the factory steel retainers, why spend $$$ for titanium retainers? Has anyone ever had a problem with a stocker? Can't see the weight making a difference on the average car. Can't be that big of a deal if no one has tried to dyno a difference. Like I said, all hype and extra expense IMO

I agree and I've said this several times for the specific situation of the comp 26918 springs.

Not sure about it being best bang for the buck mod but hold a steel one and hold a titanium one and ask yourself which one is lighter and can rev quicker. If you were a motor which one would you want to carry up to 6600 rpm's or more. Its the little stuff that puts you ahead of everyone.A .1 here a .1 there and pretty soon you have a couple of tenths that you just picked up.If money is an object then skip em but if not then I would get em.Of course a nitous kit will make up the difference between them.

I'm at home responding to e-mails so I can't remember the exact figures but I think the titanium retainer for the 918 spring compared to the steel is about 1 gram, which is negliable. Just for your information on some of the other heads we do, (non LS1), the factory steel LT4 retainer and 7 degree lock is LIGHTER then the Comp Cams Titanium retainer and matching 10 locks for the same diameter spring (1.250), now ain't that a spank in the pants or in the wallet however you want to look at it.
Once you get up to the dual spring diameter

I hate it when I hit the tab button and it ends my reply. Once you get up to the 1.440" diameter dual spring then there is a significant difference in weight. Brian @ TEA

Comp came out with Chrome-moly Steel retainers for ls1's that have 918's I suggest to buy those they are like $60 and they are lighter and stronger than the stock ones.

My stage 2 heads that are coming are gonna have them

Brian...glad to see someone with real knowledge to provide answers (not a dig on everyone else!)... most of us can speculate that these answers we get are truthful, but it helps when someone who really knows chimes in

My stuff is on the way tomorrow to TEA!
