Well.... I would not say something excessively large <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> , but not small...... o wait were talking about cams <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

By definition a cam that has the "best" horsepower won't have a broad torque curve <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thunder Racing made 455/418 on a 346 https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...1;t=008127;p=2

If it were me and I were building a H/C 346 I would definitely look at one of the TR reverse split cams and GTP heads. The dynos I see from these setups are consistently impressive.

So I got a few questions for you Jason.
First, if the shortbelt mod is worth 2rwhp, then why even bother doing it? Sounds pretty pointless to me to go to the trouble on the dyno for a measily 2rwhp.
If it does only give 2rwhp, then why would he even bother listing it as one of the mods he had on the car when he dynoed??
That'd be like me adding the Fernco hose mod when telling everyone my basic mods.
Second, why is it that everyone I've seen do it at the track gains .1/1mph or so. Does this mod give like 20rwhp down low but only 2rwhp up top? If this mod does only give 2rwhp (assuming across the board), then there'd be no way people would be gaining .1/1mph at the track from it.

We have done back to back testing with the shortbelt on quite a few cars. The most we ever saw was 3hp peak and most see between 1-2hp.
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>First, if the shortbelt mod is worth 2rwhp, then why even bother doing it? The customer wanted the car dynoed as he raced it on the street or at the track. That was the main reason for the shortbelt. Also, all his previous dynos were with the shortbelt. So, we didn't want to introduce any other variables in the dyno by not running it.

To most people, the shortbelt is considered a "dyno trick". He included it because he wanted everyone to know what was done to achieve the numbers he posted.

I and many others have ran back to back at the track and all have seen less than .05/.5mph gain. On my car, it hardly made a measureable difference.
All the above cars I mentioned were running an ASP crank pulley. Was the car running a stock crank pulley when he saw 6-7rwhp with the shortbelt?

Since all of our Stage II heads have almost the same flow numbers, then the RWHP obtained is dependent on the parts that are put around it. With that being said, I think Verbs made 440 RWHP with the TR 230/224 which is the highest RWHP H/C we have seen. So my vote would be on that cam, you would probably have to flycut the pistons to go any bigger. My 2 cents. Did the GTP car that made 455 RWHP have a TR cam?

Re: What is the best HP and Torque cam for a H & C 346 LS1?
Matt, that's kind of what I figured on the pulley. Bypassing the power steering with a stock crank pulley on the car will probably see a few extra hp/tq over a car with an ASP since it was not being underdriven with the stock crank pulley in place.
Chris's car had a ported TB and an ASP crank pulley, but stock driveshaft and flywheel.
