Default **Just did my Cam Swap...possible problem**

I need everyone's help because i was shitting myself.....at idle, sometimes the oil pressure will go as low as 23-25 psi but i noticed the idle (the car normally idles at 900) was a little low and fluctuating slightly. Please tell me its just me and there's nothing to worry about.

problem #2 I'm hearing a lifter or two making some noise...is this normal?

23-25psi is low, especially for a cold start-up. You could have possibly pinched the o-ring.

as for the sound...how do you know its a lifter? I'd pull the valve covers and make sure the rockers are torqued down correctly. It would also help if you told us what cam, valve springs, and what length pushrods your using.

23 is pretty low oil PSI, if you installed a new pump I would go check and see if the O-ring is piched first, and how do you know its the lifters making the noise? most cars with aftermarket cams will have some valvetrain noise, so how loud is this noise? maybe a video?

You shouldn't have that much noise. I barely noticed a difference after doing my cam. Like i said, we need more info on the set-up. Some parts are quiter/louder then others.

If You Installed A New Crankshaft Sprocket And Was Not Put In All The Way In That Would Move Your Crankshaft Forward And Eat Up Your Bearings And Lose Oil Pressure That Happen To Me When I Did My Car. But If You Did Not Put In A New Crankshaft Sprocket Check Your O-ring In Could Be Piched

Sounds like a pinched o-ring to me...check it with a mechanical gauge to be sure...

-=Modified=-'s car did the same thing. I would watch the oil pressure gage plummit to about 20psi, then shoot back up to about 60.. and it would stay there. I've heard this is common w/ the ported oil pumps. I don't think it's much to worry about, as long as it doesn't stay @ 25.

His car was also ticking like crazy. It was bad, tho. Some sewing machine noise is to be expected when you do valvetrain surgery like that.

What PSI spring did you install in the oil pump?

if its at 25psi when below 700rpm, but shoots up to normal whenever the engine goes up from there... its probably just fine.
if it lags a little before moving, then take the time to pull the cover and redo the Oring.

if you have a bad surge right now where its dipping to very low RPMs before saving itself, then yea.. the oil pressure will drop because the engine is just not turning the pump fast enough for the pressure to rise that high..

Did you take the pump off to change the timing chain? What year is the car?

THe car has 81k miles....keep in mind, this all happened right after the cam....before it would always be at 40 at idle and fly up later....the gauge says about 900 but on my msd shift light its at 700. I'm gonna try doing an oil change first...I'll let you all know what happens.

Is this a V6 or LS1 car (your name says V6)?
