Default Anyone use desktop dyno to model cams...

I think the topic says it all. Has anyone used this software to model the best cam for your setup?

I've read on here that DTD is not very accurate for the LS1 powerplant ;(

Someone did 2001T/A or something like that a while back. The projections were well off the actual results.

I don't know if the newest version of deck top is any better. My version does a poor job of projecting LS1 power. I do have an older version of DeskTop.

It would be nice if there was a software tool like that we could use and get accurate projections!

In most real world LS1 applications, i have found DTD to be woefully inadequate.

The real world "dyno-track" numbers just dont jive with "DTD" projections.

Then again...garbage in = garbage out.

Maybe if our data was better the DTD would be more accurate, but as it stands now... there is to much specualtion when putting in the data.

I just purchased DTD2000 and it is off the wall. I input my cylinder head flow data and nothing makes sense. The cam that I am running on DTD says I should be making alot of torque and not a great deal of HP. I pulled cam specs and something just doesnt fit with the actual output.

long time back I made these graphs from
posted desktop dyno 2000 data..
The cam gods found here at ls1tech.com told
me.. " dont post that its bad data"
I agree with the trash in trash out.
It is fun to see how several cams compared look.
Note: this is calulated data.. not real <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

When we were developing the systemmax head cam packages at Holley (94-95) we used the best software available, Dynomation, inputting flow data directly from Flowpro flowbench files and cam data directly from Campro cam data files. We found a 50 HP difference in calculated and measured HP. I understand how these things get so far off. The software can't possibly know how efficiect the chamber design is. We can do heads with excellent flow on the flowbench, run it on the car, then do the chamber for good combustion efficiency, lose flow on the bench and then pick up power on the motor. The LS1 chamber is very efficient from a combustion standpoint, obviously. So throw away the software and see who's making power with what.
