Default 230/224 cam users please

I ordered my S2 TEA heads and they'll be here next week...still making my cam choice...i see that the LSA on this cam is a 111...is that gonna be very streetable...my car doesn't see too much street action...just weekends mainly...but i want to have a cam that i can cruise with...i want to know that i can drive my car to a rod run or to the beach if i want to...anyway...if i don't go with this cam what would be the next step...the TR 224 or the 227/224...any help would be appreciated...thanks

200 to 300 miles a week for me. About 1/2 highway and 1/2 city. It surges some and dies every now and then, but I haven't finished drilling my TB out yet (got pintle #'s down to 90 so far) and I'm headed back to MTI to get some tweaking done to the tuning that should cure it.

I cruise at 1900rpm's at 70 with my 4.11 gear. Absolutely smooth. Only issues are at idle...any other conditions are no problem at all.

Just make sure you use LS1 edit (and TB hole drilling) to monitor your IAC counts. The car shouldn't die one you at all if your IAC counts are inline. Streetability isn't the best, but its not that bad as long as you have a stock flywheel IMO and good tuning.

I have a slightly larger cam. 232/226 XE-R lsa 110.. My car has never died.. THE ONLY ISSUE is hot starts it bobs a little, but w/in 10 secs it idles smooth. I am still in need of tuning.. Which will be rectified soon.. I also agree with the above guys.. Tuning is a must.. My TB hole has not been changed since my T1 cam.. 383LQ4SS can vouch for how my car drives and idles.. He has driven her on many occassions.. My car is a semi-daily driver. That's when no one is borrowing my other cars.. The TR230/224 is a great cam. Tuning is a must..

well guys it looks like i left out some really valuable info...my heads are 5.3 heads and will be milled .020...i called thunder today and they said that the 230/224 wouldn't work with my heads milled that much....said i would have to cut pistons and stuff...and i'm not looking to do that right now...just want a "simple" H/C setup...it looks like i'll be going with the TR 224 instead...after talking with thunder about my heads and which cam would be the best now...i appreciate the info and help though...thanks

5.3L heads milled .020...? We need to know more about your setup. Bits and pieces here and there does not help us inform you well.. The TR224 cam is going to rock just for your FYI. What is the supporting elements.. i.e., headers, exhaust, tb, gears, etc.. TEA Stage 2's are great. Look at Verbs car... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

The question of the hour is can you get away with about .075 clearance (although every car is different)?? That is cutting it close. I'm curious to see what others have to say. Can you cheat with slightly thicker head gaskets?
