The balancer/pulley was being a *****, not just "a little trouble" I'll be up again tomorrow and we'll continue riping that thing apart. Get the heads off and start on swaping the cams.

You better take out the plug on theside of the block and get that coolant drained out first.

Or use a shop vac on the water pump holes in the front of the block...worked good for me...

Why? thats not needed on a cam swap. I didnt see a mention of a head swap.

Why did you pull the manifold off? You could have left that on for a cam only swap.

Yeah, i'm curious why you guys are taking the intake/heads off for a cam swap?

Well, I questioned that myself...but, didn't say anything...

But if you're removing the heads for a cam swap, you're creating a LOT of extra work...

The intake didnt even need to come off, all you should have done for cam only is take all the stuff off the front of the engine, not the top with the exception of pulling the valve covers to get the pushrods out but that quick and simple.

If you are only doing a cam you just created a whole **** load of extra work and parts buying for yourself. If you pull the heads you will need new head gaskets, head bolts, and you might as well put some nice new lifters in too.

Because I read the second post where he said he was taking the heads off. I figured he was gonna change the lifter too.

Hell, might as well get some nice redone LS6 heads while they are off then, to be honest...that's what I'd have done...

We took the headers down so we could access the 5 head bolts that are impossible to get to if they were left on. Heads are coming off to change lifters, change springs and maybe do a little work to them. Can't change lifters or springs with the heads on the car

They are too short. Your lifter preload will be way low

just an FYI for you guys, if the pushrods say 7.400 on them, they will actually measure 7.423". I ended up goin with 7.350" cause of my milled heads/cometic 040 gaskets and they measuered 7.373" with my digital calipers. stock was 7.398" same measurement.
