Default Cam selection.. take a look

anyone using a trickflow cam? I never see anyone talking about them..

i was looking at a few but i dont know what kind of lobe they use, here are some ones i was thinking of:

(these are summit part#'s)

TFS-30602002 220/224 .575/.575 112*

TFS-30602001 216/220 .560/.560 114*

TFS-30602003 228/230 .585/.585 112* (not sure i like this)

my other options were

Thunder's TR224 224/224 .563/.563 112* (only i dont like is the price of this cam)
or

Lunati LUN-60511 222/228 .567/.567 113*

supporting mods include... headers, ported 241 heads, 4.10 gears, Spec 3+ clutch, LS6 intake, TSP catback, ORY,lid, hardend pushrods.. and im using brand new 04 Z04 springs (have an orange stripe, i was told would handle .580 lift?)

i dont want a cam above 230.. im not a drag racer.. i want power and a nice power curve..not after 4000rpms.. my opinion is bigger is not better.. and i dont want big donkey dong dyno #'s... i will only take the engine to 6200rpms since its a 98..

overall purpose of the car is some street use (not a daily) and about 1 road racing event a month...(average rpm road racing is in the 3-4000rpm range)

all comments and suggestions welcome..

TR 224 is a great choice. Let TR know your CR. If you are at 11:1 then 3 degrees advance will give you nice power everywhere. If you are a bit over 11:1, then 2 degrees will be enough.

If you opt for smaller, personnally I'd get a TR 220/220 112 with zero advance. the 216/220 on a 113 LSA with no advance would work.

I'd ask TR about the spings. If their ramps are too steep, you can use XE lobes.

220/224 trickflow cam is a perfect piece. it has a broad trq. curve 2300-5800, and should peak around six. nice chop at idle to. i believe tfs cams are ground by crane cams on there HR5 lobes.

if your spring load is higher then cam lift then should be no problem, I would not use springs if they are close to max lift I would bump up spring load then. to be safe .250 to max spring load for my likings.

I would change them to crane #144832-16, or comp #918-16.
