Default Cola's LS-1 crankshaft

i have an issue of "Fastest Street Car Magazine" in front of me, and when i got to the parts section, i noticed that Cola Crankshafts came out w/ a stroker crank for ls1's (offered in 4.00-4.125") has anybody heard of these? are they a reputable company?...says that it can handle over 1,500 hp, and over 10k rpm. on a side bar, does the c5r block need a different crank than a resleeved ls1 block? thanks for any info

The LT1 crowd has had great luck with Cola cranks. The C5R accepts the same cranks that LS1 style blocks do I believe.

Cola has been around for some time. They are hard to get ahold of though and seem to be ALWAYS out of stock of them. Call Chet Herbert. He can get you good prices. I think Doug knows a few guys over at Cola.

What about the cost of Cola cranks compared to Lunita? I heard Lunati will sell LS1 stroker cranks for $2,100 but the cheapest advertised price I've seen is $2,600!!! UHG!

Who needs a street crank that survives 1500HP? ...only really looking for a crank that will take 600HP or so... wish they would come down in price...

There was a GP like last month and the Lunati stroker kit w/crank, rods, pistions & rings was going for like $3300

Best quote I found for the Lunati stroker kit was $3500 as a solo purchase, same kit as above.

Call ValveGod (Shawn) He will set you up with a Cola crank for about $2K or better yet, checkout the GP section here . Ramchargers is having a special on Lunati cranks for $1920. which is a GREAT price.

ok, got the email back today, here is what it said... "Our list price on any LS 1 is
$2530.00, which includes balance and the Stator. You can get a better price
from one of our dealers. Weight of the crank with heavy metal and Stator is
51.5lbs on a 4.000 stroke. What can I tell you on difference? We use a
different core and surface heat treatment than they do for one thing. We
feel with the core heat treat we use, we get more of the internal stresses
removed than they do which makes for a straighter part and helps stabilize
the part when it's running. On the core heat treat we use a short cycle
Nitride where they will use long cycle Nitrides. The problem with deep or
long cycle heat treats is the surface of the crank journals lose their
ductility as the surface hardness reaches 59Rc @ .009 to .015 depth and you
have a core of only 34 to 38Rc it's like an egg shell on the surface, it
won't flex and when it does it fractures, which leads to premature fractures
in the radius which breaks the crank in time. Our uses a short cycle as I
said before, it's only .002 to .003 thick, there's enough to protect the
crank but it's thin enough to flex without fracturing in the radius, thus
lives longer. As for the cosmetics we look pretty much the same, both a 95%
surface machined fully detailed, we must have done something right as K-Tech
has bought over 80 units so far.
We have 4.000 and 4.125 cranks ready to ship, building the other strokes is
4 to 6 weeks delivery."
what are your thoughts on this, is their wieght similar to the lunati cranks?

I think that $2K for a crank is . Same thing with Moser...

Cola is the same company Manley, Lunati, GM performance and others use for their raw forgings and then they finish them. they are a very good crank and not a bad price... sounds liek they have gone up though.. i bought my 1 piece rear main 3.75 stroke LT1 crank from them for 895.00 when Lunati and the guys were charging 2200 for theirs.. either way you have to pay to play.. and they do need to make some money at it to pay for R&D as well as production costs.
