Default BANG!

Well I took my TA to a dyno this weekend and bad things happened}-:
I was at 5800 rpm for about 8 seconds when all of a sudden, BANG! The wire mesh in the MAF blew up into my K&N air filter and the hose that comes off the back of the intake manafold and goes to a round canaster on the fire wall right behind the driver side also blew out. The car wont stay running and there is a horrendously loud (like 150 db) whine. I will start to take the heads off and look for worn parts but has anyone seen this befor? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Unplug your MAF and see if it will stay running. We had the same thing happen when we had a nitrous burp on a friends car. Since you said the screen got blown off it definately hurt the MAF wires and all so just unplug it and keep starting the car till it will stay running. If when it does run and it runs really choppy then it might be a vacumm leak. Just a thought on what to try first.

sited12 is implying it (from your description...)

But, you had a backfire there, sonny (way lean... or spraying it ????). That's why the screen blew into the filter & it blew hoses off. Like he said, the MAF is likely dead.

Not sure about the whine. Try & locate it before you start ripping things appart.

Won't stay running because the MAF and/ or the IAT sensors are fried.

Saw a car do something similar once and in additon to what PSJ said, this car also got it's O2's fried and had a couple of fuel injectors messed up from the pressure spike with the burp.

Yup the sauce is a dangerous thing. We did get an LT1 running with no MAF or IAC but all its power was gone. Basically you need to replace all that and make sure you change the oil and spark plugs. Maybe even change the oil drive for 100 miles and change it again to make sure all that stuff is out of there.

The MAF is dead. One of the sencers in the MAF is gone. So first thing is to find a MAF. Anyone have there old one, and want to get rid of it? Thanks for all the info.
