Cool, thanks Futlon 1. So I guess with a 4.125" bore you would deffinately have to go with larger diameter pistons huh?

Judson and PatrickG both have given me alot of helpul info.Good bunch of guys down there in TX.
I looked at these style blocks tonight.Carteks got a few of them in stock. They are BEAUTIFUL and IMO the only way to go.Anything else is junk compaired to this way of doing the liners....

Mikey -
Does ARE use the Darton sleeves? I thought they were still using a straight sleeve in thier setup. If that's the case, the Darton sleeve is a night and day difference over a straight sleeve. We also built & tested several engines with a straight sleeve during the last year and a half, but we were uncomfortable with the methods required to get the sleeves to seal. The Darton sleeves have a double O-ring seal that does not leak coolant, and the thickness of the flange at the top ads a lot of strength to the deck.

I think Ed is right. ARE uses the straight sleeve that many other people have used and had issues with like cracking and dropping. These Darton sleeves definitely look like the ticket!!

ARE has not used the straight sleeve for over a year. They were the first to test and be successful with the Darton Sleeve design. They have tweaked the design even more and they utilize a dry sleeve process.

Ed, we have been using Darton sleeves for two years, we have done extensive testing for the last year and a half, and have done R&D on several different designs from Darton.
Our current sleeve is used in our 1000hp+ world record setting Camaro & Corvette, our sleeves are a custom stepped design from Darton and no block fill is used when they are installed.....we feel there is no compromise in the structural strength of the block, we also fully stand by our blocks with warranty.

If I would of known you guys were using darton sleeves earlier, I would have had my block sent to you guys there at ARE. As of now though I have someone already in the process of doing it.

Hi Barry -
Sounds like you went through the same problems we did to find something that works! I think we all agree that the Darton sleeve is the best thing available.
So, tell me about your LS1 powered '67, I'm thinking of selling the big block in my '68 Nova, and going the same route. Do you mainly use yours for drag racing?

Re: Discussion on Darton sleeves being used by Cartek and LPE.
have any of you had any experiance with the cadillac 4.1-4.5-4.9 blocks? it used a removable sleeve that never gave any problems. of course they only made 200hp you just couldnt keep intake gaskets on the dang things from depositing coolant in the oil how much difference is there in resleeveing a iron block vs an aluminum one?

Re: Discussion on Darton sleeves being used by Cartek and LPE.
Ed,
Thank you for answering my questions.
I want to do All Bore/Big Bore at some point. maybe next year. So naturally I'm trying to learn about the different options etc.

Thunder Racing is also testing these sleeves from Darton. We will have these resleeved blocks in a few cars in the very near future.

Hey Barry -
Sounds real cool! I might take you up on that offer! Are you thinking about going to the northern shootout?
Back to the sleeves, we can see by the agreement of the shops that this sleeve system is the only way to go. Hopefully we've all been able to answer everybodys questions.

Do the ARE blocks look like the one that Cartek has pictured on their website? Double O-ringed, coolant passages in the liners...ect?
