Default Titanium or Stock Retainers?

I am going to take advantage of Thunder Racing's cam special, and just wanted to know should I re-use the stock retainers or buy titanium retainers? I am going to go with the TR 220/220 114 LSA. My car is a daily driver and only sees the track 2-4 times a year. Dave at Thunder said that I could re-use the stock ones, but I just want to be sure. I would rather be safe than sorry. Will the titanium retainers give me better reliability? Thanks for the help.

Titanium retainers are lighter than the stock ones,so it would be good to go with to help reduce weight on the valve train I went with them.

I have heard that if you go with the titanium retainers, you will have less wear and tear and they are lighter. That should equate to better reliability. I went with them when I had LG put my cam in.

Thanks,

Ti is lighter than steel. A lighter valve train helps increase valvetrain stability and it also lengthens spring life.

Dude, welcome to 8 years ago. BIGGEST GRAVE THREAD EVER! This thread is so old even the formatting has changed over the years and no longer works! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

AGAIN ITS SUCH AN OLD AND FRAGILE THREAD.....The OP's join date shows 1969. HAHAHA! https://ls1tech.com/forums/member.php?u=6904

Titanium is lighter. Lighter valvetrain is going to always be better. Especially if it is stronger.

my guess is google probably populated it and he just clicked it and read the relevant info over the pre BC time frame. no big deal. Just funny to see every now and then.

WOW This thread should fall under the unobtanium catergory of retained information instead of whether or not to run titanium retainers.

But seeing as he did search... and we all like searched out info isntead of rhetoric newb **** I'll put input for the guy.

On beehive springs ti retainers are a lot less critical than dual springs. Some folks say that ti retainers are better suited for a more track focused car than a street car. These same folks say that ti retainers dont wear as well for street day in/day out use and that steel are better. But I say anytime you can take weight out of your valve train without sacrificing strength its always a good thing. TR224 is not a radical cam anymore and many MANY guys have run stock steel retainers with great success.

One more thing... If your going to get a single spring DO NOT BUY COMP 918's go and get some PAC 1518's instead

Your welcome chevy0128 morning thread from the dead laugh guy LOL
