NHRA Stock engine build
Without giving away your secrets has anyone built any LS1s for stock racing and what kind of power are you making?I was thinking of doing something a little different.

I would be very interested in this also.
I would love to do some S/E racing with a LS1 M6 Hot Rod.

From what I have heard, it is things that we would consider 'small'. Like polishing the crankshft journals for example. Individually there are not much, but added together they add up to like 10rwhp. In stock car racing, that is a big advantage

I race a 02 Camaro in NHRA stock eliminator. As a E/SA, (3400 lbs.) best ET of 10.81 @ 122.93 Best 60 ft 1.37 Twice I cleared the 60 ft timer with the front wheels and went a 1.49 60 ft on the back tires. Find a good engine and trans builder, Holley EFI system, QA1 shocks, VP fuel, KTRE 12 bolt, M/W axles and spool, Turbo Action convertor and Goodyear radial slicks. Simple. Dyno

5500+rpm stall and 6.XX+ gears not for the faint of heart and dyno we went a 1.29 60' on the rear tires in F/SA trim

Re: NHRA Stock engine build
before you call BS do the math 3400 + lb car to accelerate to a 10.XX et on a 9" tire it's not that easy. especially when you have a STOCK (unported) Throttle body and Stock (unported) LS1 heads....

A lot of people have trouble believing what can and is done in NHRA STOCK and SUPER STOCK racing but i have seen it and it is real!LS1 heads are perfect for these types of racing and they clean up because of it and rest of motor advantages.
"NOt even close" should be for describing rest of the field in class racing!

Re: NHRA Stock engine build
mike hoffpauir ran 11.16 @119 with cam only @3350raceweight.yes he has a ported t.b.,hes cam has to much lift, but im sure a little r/d would come up with a cam VERY similiar in hp gains that would pass nhra spec.and make the mods a nhra stocker does to heads and bottom end,i could easily beleive 10.8s or better.

The heads, intake & TB are stock. The cam is a HR w/.500" lift and the bottom end has stock type and weight replacement piston & ring pkg. with a 3.965" bore. There are no valve reliefs in the pistons either. TH200 trans, alum. drive shaft and a KTRE replacement 12 bolt diff with stock suspension links (bolt on traction bars allowed).
According to my power/speed calculator, this means 540 hp, but the car is more efficient than that and doesn't actually make that much.

Re: NHRA Stock engine build
Give ARE a call, we have done many of these. The 3.965 bore resleved block works great as well as the "trick" valve work. Approx. 550 hp with a.475 lift cam and almost stock compression ratio! 10.20's @ 127 mph @ 3250.
