from my expierence NHRA stock racing is that is almost a secret society you either know about the stuff that you need to do to go fast or you don't.

Talking to Brian at Hi tech motorsports (builder for Al Corda) Al's LS1 made 597 hp top stock trim

"NOt even close" should be for describing rest of the field in class racing!
before you call BS do the math 3400 + lb car to accelerate to a 10.XX et on a 9" tire it's not that easy. especially when you have a STOCK (unported) Throttle body and Stock (unported) LS1 heads....
Jay

The car has gone 10.0's @ 130+ in EXCELLENT air and a race weight of 3010 lbs. The heads, intake & TB are stock. The cam is a HR w/.500" lift and the bottom end has stock type and weight replacement piston & ring pkg. with a 3.965" bore. There are no valve reliefs in the pistons either. TH200 trans, alum. drive shaft and a KTRE replacement 12 bolt diff with stock suspension links (bolt on traction bars allowed).
According to my power/speed calculator, this means 540 hp, but the car is more efficient than that and doesn't actually make that much.
