Default Thunder and MTI Cams vs HOTCAM

Do the Thunder and MTI cams put out alot more power than the Hotcam on a stock head and bottom end car? I realize headers are a must to get the most of a cam. It seems that with cam and springs a Thunder or MTI cam will basilcally cost $600-$625 while the Hotcam can be gotten for $410 from Pace. Would the MTI or Thunder be worth the extra $$

Thanks

It all depends on the setup. For the money, you can't beat the hotcam. They have been dynoed at 380rwhp with stock heads. However, some other cams have seen well over 400hp on stock heads, it all depends on what you want.

auto or stick? I have an a4 and am looking at the tr224 possibly on a 112. there are bigger cams but that one looks like a good compromise. i think with the hotcam you are leaving power on the table. for the same lope and idle you could have a bigger cam

I have an A4. Yea I guess if I could squeeze 20 more horses out of the more expensive cam it would be worth it...

I just swapped the hot cam out of my 99 Trans Am.With hooker longtubes, off road y-pipe,flowmaster cat back, freemods and a 160 t-stat my car made 358hp and 353lb/ft tq.I switched to a Thunder Racing Tr224/112lsa cam and made 361hp and 358lb/ft tq.Might be more left in the computer but thats a direct comparison. The Hot cam seems to get a bad rap. From what I found its a pretty nice grind for the cash. And you get springs with it.

The TR224 only put down 3 more RWHP & 5 more Tq than the Hotcam! WOW!

The Hotcam is definitely a pretty good package. performance & price wise.

If you are going to keep the stock heads and get tuning, and you street race then I think the Hot cam is an awesome choice. The make great midrange power, which is what you want for the street. You can get a new fad monstor cam if you want to dyno high, and spin the motor to 6800. It all depends on what your goals are. Street, strip, topend?

I dont street race but I do f around on the street when it looks like I can get away with it. I will be heading to the track from time to time so that is where I will want to see results.

Who has before and after times on the MTI, Thunder and Hotcam with stock heads. Post up please.

Last time out with stock heads and the TR230/224 cam, 4.56/28", the car went 11.25@121.62 (1.54 60'). Besides the tire/gear change, I added some tuning and a Wolfe Rollcage and a few mods to offset the weight of the cage. So, the raceweight was nearly the same between the two runs. Air was about the same too.
