Default Oil Analysis: Royal Purple 10w30 for 6,000 miles

I just got my results in today. I ran it through the longer AC Delco UltraGuard Gold filter. It looks like it's pretty good stuff, I'm deffinately gonna stick with it, for $3.99 a quart, that's an awesome deal. If you need an analysis, Terry is an awesome guy to deal with and answers all my questions right away no matter how dumb they are

Dyson Analysis

Oil Brand/Weight : RP 10w-30
Type Equipment : LS1 T/A pontiac 2002
Miles/Hours on oil : 6015
Total Miles/Hours : 7515

Results ppm/% Comments (blank=normal)
Wear
Copper 168 normal for these engines
Iron 38
Chromium 1 low
Lead 7
Aluminum 6
Silicon 22 coming into normal range
Tin 5 normal

Additives
Molybdenum 95 mostly add of RP
Sodium 580 RP add
Magnesium 461
Zinc 794
Potassium 0
Phosphorus 630
Calcium 1310

Physical Properties
Water negative
Fuel negative
Antifreeze negative
Soot 69 slight elevation of solids,34.5%
Oxidation 60 30%
Nitration 73 36.50%
Sulfur 128 fuel sulfur residue, hard driving, and RP
TBN 6 10 TBN new,slight depletion
Vis@100 C 11.1 Solid 30w no shear

Final Comments : Change oil, if not already. Continue use of RP 10w-30,
could go to 7500 miles
on oil. How hard are you romping on it ? Full throttle accel is evident with
higher nox and fuel sulfur.
Next oil change will show less stress on oil as the engine breaks in.
Might try a different brand of premium fuel to lower nox. Overall normal to
good report on engine and oil.

Because it's the first interval with a different oil, that explains the quick TBN drop. It shouldn't have dropped that fast normally. Lead is pretty high but then again that happens with hard driven cars, and the engine is still very new so all wear metals will be higher.

I now have RP 5w30 in my wife's car. They sent me a free case! I'm gonna run it in my sister's 99 Civic, and do a long interval of 12k or so.

And yes, Terry is awesome! He's who I get to do my analysis also.

Patman,

I just switched to the new Mobil 1 10x 30 in my Hyundai. Is it worth it for me to get it looked at? I drive so much (10,000 miles in 3 months) that I just need it for the convenience of a longer interval. Should I have this oil sent out when I'm done or wait until the next batch since this is the first time my Elantra is seeing a synthetic. Also, I am probably nuts but I would swear the car runs a bit better with this synethic. Is it possible I could feel that?

It's doubtful that you are really feeling a difference with a change of oil like that. I often hear a lot of people on the net say they feel a difference when switching oils but it's all in their head. I especially hear people say this when switching to Royal Purple, but I felt zero difference when I switched my wife's car over from Mobil 1 to Royal Purple yesterday. I asked her if she felt any difference and she said no also.

What you should do is run the first interval after this switchover to Mobil 1 up to about 5k. Then on the second interval run it to 10k and have it analyzed and see if you want to take it further. If you're putting mileage on that fast, chances are good that you can probably go 15k on that Mobil 1. But try it at 10 first and see how it's holding up. I have every confidence that the 10k interval will be ok.

You won't get a measurable SOTP difference using RP, especially with a lower horsepower car but you will see about a 2% to 3% increase in power with Royal Purple over most other oils and this will show up on a dyno when dynoing a high HP motor.

I felt a power increase right away when I went from Castrol GTX to Royal Purple, my friend did the same in his Z and felt an increase too I guess it works on some peoples and not on others
