Check out our Sponsor Sales forum and look for the latest SDPC internet specials ad. SDPC is our exclusive GM parts sponsor, and they have a sale on those GM CNC ported LS6 heads right now. Seems like a very nice deal!

How close would these be when compared
to a stage II head from say MTI/Cartek/ARE/GTP.
Thanks

A very good friend of mine watched a set of these heads flow 305 cfm. I think they're one of the best deals out there for heads, especially since you don't have to have a core.

Dave, these heads would be comparible to most shop's "Stage 1" LS6 type heads. Plus, if you are crafty you could always have a shop hand-finish the CNC ports to make them flow a bit more.

I'd watch how agressive a cam you run with those Z06 springs. An XE-R or TR cam needs better springs. An XE might be ok if you don't rev it high.

Like a Stage I is right...the ticket confirms stock sized valves, but still a very good deal.

Dont take much in making a 3000 tin can to run well,Do it w/a 3500lb car, then u have something to talk about to the boys at the bar

Seriously,These heads are a good deal..
With the right cam,They'll work very well but I'd rather have the others I mentioned...

Once I lean the cal out a bit, get the shift points corrected, and some negative DA numbers, it ought to run real well.

I'm happy, but these heads are not the "ultimate", just a nicely priced set of good NEW heads (no core charge, either). They will not fit the bill for everyone.

...leaving this thread now and heading towards the bar as tonight's track night is rained out.

Would you guys recommend these CNC ported LS6 heads for a Lunati 382 stroker? I have a 98 LS1 that I'm rebuilding and was wondering if it would be better to get these than to try and port/machine my existing heads, or should I spend the extra cash and get some GTP/MTI/etc ones?

I'm not looking for a total dragster, still want to be very streetable, so things like emissions and idle and fuel are "somwhat" important. But I would like to get the most out of my setup without compromising too much of the "everyday driveability".

The other thing too is that my current heads are the stock ones that came with it and have 85K miles, so I don't know if they are good candidates for porting or returning as a core charge on something like the GTP/MTI heads.

Any opinions, suggestions???

I was doing some digging around at SDPC and saw that they had BARE 2002 LS6 heads for $580 a piece as well as the CNC ported versions. So now, is it worth the extra $215/head to get the CNC ported ones? I guess the answer lies in what you're looking for and whether or not you can get the stock ones ported for cheaper than $215/head to at least the same quality as the CNC ported ones?

They also have the BARE 2001 LS6 heads, but they go for $685...so what's the difference between the 2001 and 2002 LS6 heads again?

I might just know of someone who has just put them on and they work quite well.

Your choice of cam, etc. will drive your pushrod length. The basecircle of your cam, amongst other things, will dictate the pushrod length.

George, thanks for cnc pics, there is some interesting difference to the technique of those ports, you can always learn something from others sharing

I'm very interested in the info as well. I am looking to pick up a set of the assembled 02 LS6 CNC ported heads and would like to hear what some of the more knowledgable people have to say.

i think the '01 and '02 difference is in the valves. the '02 has the sodium filled valves that were mentioned above. plus the springs may be different since the cam was changed from '01 to '02. not sure on that. can you get bare CNC ported LS6 heads? cause then you could throw on the springs that will work with a larger cam. almost the same
