Default ported oil pump = low oil pressure?

will a ported oil pump cause a lower oil pressure? i am looking into buying a car that has a fair share of aftermarket parts on it and i noticed it reads around 20 psi at idle. will the ported pump cause this? it does raise with rpms so i am not too concerned but i was more or less curious.

if the oil pickup o ring gets ripped or pinched, it will cause low oil pressure. Who did the work? Does the guy know what he doing? It's a common problem when people are installing an oil pump that the ring get pinched or ripped if they're not paying attention. The oil blows pass the o ring and can't build pressure.

the o ring is on the pick up tube . so it won't blow past it what happens is it sucks air instead of pulling oil up out of the pan. def should be fixed a.s.a.p in my opinion

so you dont' think a ported pump will cause a decrease in pressure?? you think it is more than likely a bad pump or bad o-ring?

a ported oil pump does just the opposite...it increased oil flow and pressure. if it was just replaced than its probably the o-ring like everyone says.

i thought with porting when you increase volume, you should see a decrease in pressure? or maybe thats if you dramatically increase the size of the port.

Porting just increases the volume not the pressure. Shimming the oil pump is what increases pressure.

i kind of figured porting it would decrease the pressure as well. maybe it is better off replacing the whole pump with a new one......i just hate to replace that o-ring and still have the problem.
