Quickin ,

Dam, I should go over 500 easy, right? </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Based on these preliminary numbers I’d say so. Unless the curve takes a dive up top for some reason….
What heads do you have? LS6? What CR?
I only have 10.9:1 and I see you got 1 7/8 headers, which must be helping this motor breath, so maybe that’s why you’re making more power than me….

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"> Only bad thing is, I didn't want this cam. I asked for a smother idle than I'm gonna have. You might be pleasantly surpriced. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
I told you before I got almost same cam and I drive my car every day in NYC traffic, rain, AC on, etc. It’s perfectly fine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I was also afraid that this cam would be too much for a street car (because the numbers sounded BIG), but I don’t regret getting it one bit – I’d get the same cam again. <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />

I’m just not into drag racing. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
If I were to put slicks and add some low gears to it I’m sure it’d run 10s @ 130 or something like that, not that I’ll ever find out lol <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Any problems with your motor at all?
How many miles?
Do you know how many ARE 436's there are?</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Got ~4.5K miles on it I think. So far so good <knock on wood> <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
I personally know of anther 436 (MattG) and a bunch of 422s and 427s….. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I'm not at all interested in racing it at the strip either, just wanted a street monster to deal with those pesky Vipers, which are everywhere around here. 3 on my street alone. Also a Porsche GT3, which isn't much anyway, but the guy keeps asking me when i'm getting my car back so we can race. I will take it out there as you did just to see what it will do. I'll be borrowing some slicks for the run. Hope I get into the 10's just once.

Makes more sense now. 11.5:1 and 1 7/8 headers vs. my 10.9:1 and 1 ¾ - hence more power. Incidentally, I missed a gear in that one too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> LOL I’m not a bad driver I swear! LOL

A 230/230 cam in a 436 is ridiculously small. The cam Nick put in should idle pretty well and make great power.

I think you have well over 500RWHP in the car when you are finished. I dont think I would complain LOL

Didn't you say you havent heard/seen the car yet? How do you know how it idles? (Just curious) That 242/242 cam on 114LSA will idle pretty smooth in your car with an idle speed of about 900.

Also your pump WOULD NOT be adequate for the 436 with 230/230 cam. You need a intank pump at minimum. Fuel is one thing you should not scimp on with motors of this size.
Cheers,
Chris

A few comments...

-Only cars that have dynoed over 550rwhp have been 43_ci+ solid rollers with serious compression

-I had a 242/242//114 cam in my 422ci before Q'n and it idled okay, a 230/230 cam would barely lope in your setup I would say. I run a 244/244//112 now and it does lope out. I can't get mine to idle at lower than 1050 or so (A4 car)

-I think PaiN has the dyno record for an hyd setup, and Nineball is 2nd (530rwhp vs 525)

You should just send that motor my way. I'm sure I can hook you up with one that idles just like stock. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I just want a car that makes max HP and yet does not stall, or surge. I can deal with everything else about a cam, except for those 2 things.

I was thinking a 240/240 on a 114 should be nice, or perhaps a 242/242 on a 114.

What would happen to the powerband if the LS was raised to 115 on either of these 2 cams?

Depends on the stroke Harold, and other aspects of the combination.

My 244/244/112+4 XE-R peaked at 5700 rpms affected in part by my 4.075 stroke. I might retard my camshaft 2 degrees to try to get the peak up around 6000 rpms which I think is pretty decent. I think a 114 LSA would idle better, and a 115 would idle much much better than my 112. I had a 232/232//116 cam four years ago and it idled like a B1.

550rwhp/508rwtq - Futral Motorsports 434ci motor:
https://ls1tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...=007616#000000

The car recently went 130-131mph in the 1/4mi with a raceweight near 3700lbs. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Couldn't do it with a H/C motor because to get in the mid 400 RWHP range to get those 11's the motor would idle like complete crap. So it had to be a stroker. Nick and Mike Norris said a stroker would easily get me mid 400's with a stock like idle and low to mid 11's. So I went with the stroker. They both agreed that a 230/230 cam would do it. Nick, having screwed up my entire motor building experience since February when I paid for it IN-FULL, also put the wrong cam in my motor. Mike Norris and I didn't find this out till 4 weeks ago when the motor was delivered to Orlando for install.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">

(Just curious)</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mike Norris let me sit in a couple cars at his shop months ago to feel the different idles. He knows that I always wanted a smooth idle. After starting my car and dynoing it he called me and told me about the idle. He thinks I won't like it at all. He said it's a BEAST, but it's not what I ordered. Mike would have used a 230/230 as well.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That 242/242 cam on 114LSA will idle pretty smooth in your car with an idle speed of about 900.</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I hope so. After waiting 9 months for my PIAD IN-FULL motor to be built and delivered, then finding out that I have the wrong cam BY FAR, I said screw it, just let me have the car.
Wade at ARE, being a totally great guy to deal with said he would work with me if I was unhappy with the cam. Wade was the saving grace for the 9 months of hell I went through with Nick. Wade stepped up and took care of things for me when I was about to throw in the towel with this whole thing and just stay stock.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
Also your pump WOULD NOT be adequate for the 436 with 230/230 cam.</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The stock pump is more than adequate for a 436 making 450 RWHP and lower, according to Wade and Mike Norris. The dyno proved it when it started losing PSI at 480 RWHP just before 5000 RPM. So it's almost good enough for the motor now. Mike Norris knew this before he even started the motor when he saw the 242/242 cam was in there. So, if the cam was correct (230/230) I wouldn't need a new pump, so I didn't plan on it. Now I do need one and I will be getting one from ARE.

I hope I'm OK with the idle, because 500 RWHP would be nice to have on tap. If it sucks, I'll happily give up 50 RWHP for a nicer idle and still run 11's.
