Default another compcam 212/218 question

My goal, is to pretty much have a sleeper, look mostly stock, and to sound stock. Will this cam, com cams 212/218 522/529 lift at 114lsa idle pretty smooth/close to stock (no lope or anything)? what kind of power gains can I expect through out the powerband? I have an M6, I wont need any programing right? what about the 216/220 at 525/532 lift cam? Thanks for your help guys

Check out ISpeedWS6 in the classifieds man. Hes selling a few 02 LS6 cams. I have seen a few guys swap this cam in and make 360s to 370s at the wheels with all the bolt ons. Complete sleeper and it makes its power on stock tuning. Hes only asking 200 for the new cam and 02 LS6 springs.

I listened to the Thunder Racing 220 220 114 cam in a mn6 trans ls1 SS and it sounded pure stock...no lope, etc.

I have run both the 212/218 and the 216/220 in A4 cars. The 216/220 is in my car now. They both caused idle problems in my cars because of the low idle speed on A4 cars. (surging/stalling) I installed the 212/218 cam in a 02 M6 T/A and with the M6 higher idle speed, it idled just fine. There will be a very slight lope with both cams. The louder the exhaust, the more noticeable. I used 01 LS6 springs with both cams.

The TR220 cam is the one I wanted to go with in the 1st place, but then was afraid it woudnt be as smooth as the stock cam. I have the dual/dual exhaust, so hopefully that will help muffle a little lope, if any. I've been reading about the Z06 cam, and the only thing I dont like about that, is from what I understand, power wise, the only gains are from about 4-5000 rpm and up, doesnt look like it has a ton of mid-rang either. I was looking for something that I could install, and be able to run with stock tuning, and still idle nice and smooth, hopefuly sound undetectable. If the TR220 cam fits all that criteria, then I will probably just go that route. Im still tossing ideas around though. Thanks for the replies

My cam and other "old man" mods below. I think single patterns idle a bit smoother, and on a 114 LSA a 218/218 would be almost undetectible. Mine has an ever-so-slight lope thru the cats.

BoscoZ28: My cam is a custom Comp grind I got through Racenet, not a sponsor. Any Comp cam dealer would be able to order it for you. Idle with 112LS a little rough and may give you occasional random misfire code which has to be eliminated thru programming. If you order on a 114LSA, you should idle fine. Unless you raise stock rev limiter though, you may leave some good power band on the table. Hope this helps.

I just put a 216/220 114LSA comp cam in over the weekend. Even with the park idle raised to 850 it still has a pretty good lope and a few p0300s here and there. I am running through the cats and its by no means stealth, in gear at 750 rpm isnt as bad but its still obvious. I'll dyno it next week, feels pretty good and pulls right up to 6300 without a problem. I like it so far..

I to have the 216/220 cam in my 2002 WS6 A4. I do have tuning and my idle right now is at 900 rpm because I had a TR224 plus I have a Vig3600. At 900 rpm I'm alittle disappointed that I can't really hear the cam. And this is with FLP's with cats and the medium size plate in the Borla. I had the same cam in my '99 SS M6 with the idle at 800 rpm and you can definatly tell it had a cam. You could hear the crisp lope sound. But on my new car it sounds almost like a stock cam. Go figure. But it does make real nice mid-range and top end power without killing low end torque. I might look into the TR220 or Comp's version of the B1 cam in the spring. Good luck with your choice.
