Yeah that's what I meant, on my cam, I am getting 0 degrees on it so that I can adjust it however I want. So I will install it dot-to-dot and then use the cam card. Right?

If you want [no] retard or advance ground into the cam, make sure the LSA and the IC in your cam are both the same. This info can be varified on your cam card that is supplied with the cam.
Now, if you want to install it lets say 2 degrees advanced, just buy an adjustable timing set and follow the instructions that will get you 2 degrees advanced.
Again, a degree wheel (if used properly) will verify the cam card info, but probably is not real necessary.
I think you may just be getting to "wrapped around the axle" on this whole advance/retard deal.
Hey, do yourself a favor (and less headaches) and just buy a Comp Cams with the desired specs you want. It will more than likely have 4 degrees advance ground in it from the factory. Stick it in dot to dot and enjoy. That 4 degrees advance will give you real good throttle response, good low rpm torque, with very little loss of power in the 6,000+ rpm range. Comp Cams puts the advance in there because its a good compromise for your daily driver. Don't loose alot of sleep over all this.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

This all sounds like a guessing game. All you need is an engine dyno and one of these vernier timing sets. Only then can you be certain that you have dialled your cam right, for the best most usable power.

Glad to see you finally got it Pete - Gotta say though mine does look better, but then again i'm sure you didn't pay as much as what i did... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
Advancing makes more power down low and retarding makes more up top..
BS - Getting the cam in the exact right spot makes more power in some places without sacrifice to power in other parts of the usuable HP range.
Like Plan B said all you need is a adjustable vernier set.
AND a dyno good enough to see the REAL small changes to the power & torque..
By the way I've got mine setup so as I can change the cam timing within 6 minutes on a fully assembled engine on the engine dyno, without so much as a water or oil leak <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
