Default TRak Camshaft with LS6 heads

I am looking for a low budget head that I can port later on down the road. I was thinking that the LS6 heads flow fairly decent what do u guys think? Do texas speed heads flow better than the stock ls6 heads? Think ill put down some good numbers with my cam? Im planning on making a decision with a few days. Any advice would be appreciated. thanx in advance

The Texas Speed PRC LS6 1.5 Heads already have some work done to them. They are a great buy. I have had great luck with mine.

The TSP heads only flow around 60 cfm (at .600") better than a stock head. I wouldn't touch those with a carbide cutter unless you're a very experienced porter.

They're a good head for money. In your case you're going to have a higher-rpm motor and they should work really well.

What should you expect? Of course HOSS put 430+ to the wheels with a TRak cam, Fast 90/90, and stock 853 heads. So, with a good intake on your car it could be really impressive!

I've got the Trak cam with stock unported LS6 heads. As far as dyno numbers, I made 410 rwhp with a stock throttlebody, stock pulley, and through 4.10 gears. If you had a ported tb, pulley, and 3.42 gears, the numbers would probably be around 430-435 rwhp.

Also, look into the work that TEA can do to your ls6 castings.

Ok, I am leaning towards the Patriot stage III heads, maybe the 64cc if it will work with clearance. I plan on installing heads within a couple of weeks. I will try to post up some dyno numbers with whichever heads i go with.

Stage III 1020 Superflow Bench 4.125 Bore

Lift 2.08" Intake 1.60" Exhaust

.100 78 cfm 66 cfm

.200 147 cfm 124 cfm

.300 209 cfm 164 cfm

.400 255 cfm 206 cfm

.500 296 cfm 229 cfm

.550 312 cfm 232 cfm

.600 322 cfm 237 cfm

I doubt that 2.08" valve and a 64cc chamber will clear with your 232 intake lobe on a 112 LSA.

If you are looking to stay budget..I would go for the GMPP LS6 head and mill it. Get a FAST 90/90 and you should see in the neighborhood of 450+ if tuned decent. One day when I can afford some damn heads, I will be going with AFR's. Hopefully right around the corner Best of luck!

PS..what did you make cam only?

Thanks for the info! Im gonna think about it until sunday and then make my decision, just wanna make sure i get right the heads for my budget. My dyno numbers werent so impressive, I made 390 with the ls1 intake . I plan on getting the fast 90/90 within a couple of months, so hopefully it will clear its breathing quite a bit

Getting better heads before the intake could be a huge disappointment if still running the LS1 intake on your car.

I doubt the GMPP LS6 heads milled would clear PTV, not sure you would have to check it...that LSK lobe with .640 lift is gonna be close at the very least

Definitely would not clear. You would have to flycut, but it would very beneficial to the power to mill them. I would go with the FAST90/90 before I did heads though. You will pick up 20+ to the wheels, more like 30 or so.

Cant install the 90/90 first I have to replace the lifters since they are takin a crap, so it makes sense to me to replace the heads while im in there. The intake will just have to wait for a couple of weeks after install
