Engine experts, take a look at my setup for 68 Camaro Twin turbo
I'm currently building a C5 based 68 Camaro that is going to be a twin turbo'd LS1, and wanted some input on my engine specs for those of you who know these engines.
97 LS1 C5 block
ARE oil pump
Luntai forged crank
Eagle forged rods
Custom 9:1 pistons
ARP studs everywhere
Thermal coated pistons
Thermal coated exhaust valves
thermal coated exhaust ports
MTI stage 2 heads
Jesel valve train
Camshaft- ????
C5R valve covers
FAST computer/harness
Hogans sheetmetal dual throttle body, crossram intake
C5 oil pan
Turbonetics Garret T3/T4 hybrid turbos
Any suggestions, or changes? I really want a RELIABLE engine that makes 600RWHP, that i don't have to mess with all the time, and kick the crap out of if need be.
I'm undecided on boost level, but they will not be high.

I have two suggestions.First I would go with an iron block and 2nd I would get a blitz dual solenoid boost controller that way there is no boost creep or anything of that nature happening to the turbos.Other than that you got it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Oh and good luck.I lied also get HKS waste gate and also two blow off valves I think the Greedy type R will be excellent for your setup. Then you will be ready to go.

Pro Stock john-
Why the Truck heads? Aren't they iron versions? Should i be looking into LS6 castings, or are these prone to warping?
Bill- yes, the car is factory Rallye Green. I love the car. Pics of the car in in the sig.
Alonzo- Do you have a link to these turbo parts and waste gates?
rich- What rods to you recommend?

The later 6.0 heads are aluminum and have 70cc combustion chambers, which can help keep the car pump gas friendly even around 600rwhp when used with some of the popular 9:1 pistons out there.

the later castings on the aluminum 6.0 heads are also supposed to have intake runners very similar to the LS6 but w/ the bigger chambers. kinda helps out w/ pistion choice also.
aside from that, very awesome looking project. i cant wait to see some video of that thing in action. ;D good luck!

Definately go with these heads.

I would rephrase that, the newer 6.0 heads are very similar to LS6 heads. I think LS6 heads are like 64cc chambers whereas the 6.0's are 70CC. The 6.0's are set up for a 4.000 bore as well whereas the Z06 is a 3.900 just like the F-cars and earlier C5's.

I hate to do this but I will have to send you to the supra forum. It is www.supraforums.com
They have all types of sponsors over there like Titan,Bullish,Powerhouse. All of these guys can hook you up.If you want though I can send you through my buddy sense he has his own shop he use to work for powerhouse and actually still does.Anyway shoot me a email and I will give you his number. In all honesty he will give you a better price than the rest of them out there. Not trying to make a sale as you can tell I am just giving you options.Good luck.Oh and yes go with the 6.0 heads like PSJ was saying and get some big boy injectors because the 28lbers wont work.

Retro projects are definitely one of my favorites.
Couple of component suggestions
boost controller
turbo xs high performance boost controller
or dual stage (for traction issues)
best working simplest boost controller
(out of the 4-5 i have used/tuned with)
Wastegate
Dual Tial 35mm
BOV (blow off valve)
Tial BOV
THses are what i would reccomend

Only thing that breaks on those are rod bolts.

Nice project car, be sure to get us some pictures...
1) Heads, I'd do the 6.0 liter truck heads they have 70cc chambers.
2) Cam, I have talked to a lot of folks about this lately and I'll put it this way, think duration in the 220's to keep the power up in the mid 6000's where you will make good power... Having a motor that peaks too soon will not make as much horsepower. I'd run a 218 single pattern on a 116, or a 225/218//116... Research something in that range.
3) For 600rwhp you will probably want 42 or 50 lb injectors, and you will need a fuel system.

awesome setup you have there. Is that rally green? Me and My dad did a frame off on a 68 Rally green z and that color rules. I hope to someday put a motor like that in my chevelle someday. ON a side note if you need a set of turbo headers i know tom izzo is selling a set. Good luck

TeeToe - that is a very cool project! I believe we may have spoke on the phone about cams & rods, but if you ever need any help, I'm working on a hybrid conversion '68 Nova, and Barry at ARE has a '68 Camaro that he drag races with much success!
Either one of us would be willing to share advice.
good luck, sounds like all of the previous posts have a lot of good info for you.
