It looks like I must have slid across the top of the lock while I was under there because there was a spot on the cardboard where it appears the lock stuck to it when I lifted it up to look at it. Needless to say, after the car was out and I picked the box up the damn lock un-stucked itself (In my 4 year old daughter's words) and fell on the floor.

Thanks to all for your help.
Glad to see you found it. I was taking my springs off, with the heads on the work bench, and two of mine took flight across the garage. I have yet to find the damn things.

Well imo when you get stressed out now just listen to that video because that was 10 times better than your avatar.

You dodged a bullet. The first spring swap we did on a buddy's car one of the locks disappeared. We debated for an hour on what to do. We ended up pulling the head and there it was resting right next to the lifter retainer.

Word of advice to ALL spring swappers, plug the head bolt holes and anything else before you start.

I know the f'd feeling you are experiencing...but I dodged the bullet.

I was replacing my springs and something slipped (I always use a magnet as I get close to colapsing the spring to catch the retainers) but I slipped leaning over the car and the under the spring load the retainers went flying.....luckily (and I couldn't even believe it) they both fell under the car and I retrieved them...but I had the same feeling that you have....good luck man.
