Default 2000 Trans Am

I recently got a 2000 Trans Am without ram air. My question is, what difference in horsepower is there between the same Trans Am with ram air and mine? Can I get ram air installed after market?

This is with no modifications.

Does anyone know the actual horsepower of the car with and wihtout ram air? What would be the best thing to do right away that would boost the horsepower at least decently that's realitively cheap?

Sorry if that's too many questions in one thread.

Free ram air mod and a lid will be a good start, do a search on bolt-ons.

well if you are dynoing there would be no diff in hp because the ramair only works if you are moving
a couple of cheap hp mods would be a p&p of the t/b & MAF, FreeRamAir, and a lid, should get ya a little seat-of-the-pants grin going

According to GM the non ramair ls1 cars made 305 hp and the ram air ws6 cars made 325hp. In 2001 or 2002 it went up 5hp, but the 305 is a very conservitive #. It is pretty well known GM underrated these ls1 cars. And these #'s are at the crank.

my belief is that cooler air from Ram Air is where it gets it's HP from and the tune, that's why non-Ram air has different tune. that is why the crank hp difference.

There is no difference in the tune, and the "Ram Air" doesnt add any hp over the standard TA. The WS6 does however have a slightly better catback, but the gains are negligable.

While stock, the ram air hood has baffles in front of the opening. It's pretty much a maze that air has to travel through to even get to the air filter. Remove the baffles, and seal the hood to the opening of the lower airbox, and then there can be a difference. There used to be a kit called BG ram air, but it's no longer in production. You could make your own, or try and find a used one for sale. BTW, you would have to have the WS6 lower airbox as well as ram air hood to accomplish this.

In the end, add the ram air hood for looks, not performance

Get a non functional fiberglass ram air hood (cheaper and lighter) cut out the panel behind the nostrils, and buy the FTRA cold air intake. Seems to work pretty good on my brothers car
