I was considering doing a GM aerosol through the TB. Any experiences here? Just want to do it as a maintenance...the car is running great, but has 33000 miles on her and has had a few doses of injector/fuel cleaner in the gas tank. Will the car idle fine w/out the MAFS connected? Any tips here is appreciated.
Randy
BTW, got the FRC's (what a PITA!) and clear MTI lid and Holley filter installed...I think it really finished it off. Pics soon.
Happy New Year all!

Try taking out the filter, and spraying it into the bottom of the air box so it gets sucked in with the air. You can have some one step on accelerator pedal, or you can open the throttle body by hand.

I used the liquid GM cleaner. I poured it in a bowl and used the vacuum line that runs to the brake booster to let the engine suck it into the intake. You have to do this slowly. Once it took it all it, I shut off the engine and let it set for a few hours. Then I fired it back up and ran the p!ss out of it, you'll get LOTS of smoke. Then change the oil, it'll probably be diluted from the cleaner.

I ran the aerosol top head cleaner with the maf disconnected and suprisingly it didn't set any codes. Maybe I finished before it had a chance to set any codes...in open loop mode maybe??

I've done it by screwing off the MAF clamp & spraying it in there with the tube provided with the spray can. But I think I got better results by pouring it in a cup & letting the PVC sip it out, slow at first, then if you can, have someone raise the idle just a little, and you place the PVC down in the cup so it sips more, and have them let off the throttle while you have the pvc down in the cleaner, so that it will stall the car out when they let off the gas. This will flood the cylinders with the cleaner. Let it sit overnight if you can. Undo the coil pack, so the motor will turn, but not fire over. In the morning, turn over the motor like this, so that it flushes out the cleaner, then connect the coils and fire her up. It will smoke like a bitch, go up and down the road, getting on it a little, and the smoking will stop. When it has stopped completely, go home and change the oil immediately. You are good to go from there. Good luck.

Thanks for all the input! I have already purchased the spray from GM, so I will give it a try. I am just going to remove the lid, MAF, and bellows but leave wiring connected.
Thanks again and have a great New Year!!

I also heard you can get great results by removing the spark plugs and spraying some in each spark plug hole and let it sit overnight(might want to spray some in the intake manifold without running the motor also). Then the next morning crank the motor over with the spark plugs still out a few times to expel the remaining liquid(leaving the spark plugs out will allow the cleaner to be ejected from the cylinder instead of causing hydro lock). Then reinstall spark plugs and fire it up and follow above directions from there. Might make a bit of a mess in the engine bay though with the cleaner shooting out of the spark plug holes.

I think that process would be for an engine that has not been maintained. I am in no hurry to screw with plugs on this engine... I will post with results of the GM spray when I need an oil change.
Later.

the stuff works great. just be sure to change your oil. I would prolly do mine twice, but then I'm kinda **** when it comes to my engines lube system
