Everyone has this problem. Most guys just get tired of answering the same questions over and over. Anyway, some of the noise during cold starts is from the lifters that have bled down while it was sitting. Another part of your problem is piston slap, which is a common problem with LS1s. Do a search on here for piston slap, and you'll find plenty.

Mark...

Does it start making a tapping sound after about a minute or so of idling after a cold start in the morning? Then the noise stops after about 3 minutes or so of continuous idling?

If so, check the fuel vapor purge valve.

It's located right next to the #1 fuel injector (drivers side front). Pop the hood, start the car. As soon as the tapping sound starts, pull the wire connector to the valve. Sound stops... You found the cause of the noise. Pulling the connector for a short period of time while checking the purge valve has never set an SES light.
