Default High Miliage Cam Swap

I have a 2000 Z28 W/120K on the clock, I want to get a new cam for my D/D shuold I get a new cam or wait to 150k when I get my rebuild. My car is in excellent running condition, but I'm wooried about having excessive miles. I want something that willl idle like stock, and improve my fuel economy because i drive 130+ miles a day. What do you guys suggest?

****...if your getting it rebuilt in 20,000 miles anyways why not...you can always use the cam in the new motor

if your looking for suggesstions on a cam take a look at the lpe gt2-3. i ran 1 for awhile and loved it. idle was stock sounding, better gas milage, and 375/374 at the tire

just did a H/C swap on my Z28, its got 163,000 on it. i pulled the cylinders heads off and it still had the factory cross-hatching in the cylinder bores. these motors are amazing.

Why do the rebuild? I have done many head/cam and even nitrous installs on 100k+ ls1's that all looked new still. Everyone still had the cross-hatching still. Unless you are having problems with the motor, I would just install the cam. What ever cam you go with the tune is what will either make or brake the car as fair as gas mileage and drivabilty. So far all my cars have got better milage after cam install and tune than when they were stock.

ya...if the motor doesn't burn any oil or anything, mileage is just a number.

what does that mean? my friend used to swear that motors run their best with some mileage as opposed to straight out of the factory.

I've got 141,000 on my 98 Z-28. Installed the cam around the 130,000 mark and it runs like a raped ape. This car is awesome! Can break the BFG 315's out back loose like nothing I've ever seen. Doesn't use oil and runs great. I'd go for it, your just breaking that motor in.

do the swap and you should be fine, but you just never know. As far as cam selection lpe has a 216/230 or something like that( might be that gt2-3) is real nice. Or the Thunder sleeper cam. For your goals your really dont want a cam bigger than 224.

Go for it man. You just might want to think about replacing a couple other things also. Like the timing chain, oil pump, lifters(unless you dont want to pull the heads), and with 120K i would definetly replace the valve seals.
