Katech short block (LS2 sleeved) $7k
SDPC short block (LS7 block) $6k
Bill Mitchell Warhawk block $6.9k
Then you will need heads, cam, oil pump, lifters, etc..
You will probably have about $12k in it before its all done.

tell me about it....thats why i was out of the fbody scene for about 2yrs because i was scared of what would happen this time. lol
that 427extreme from speedinc looks good. and is 7500. im basically stuck right now in what way to go with the car. the car WILL have the ATI s/c setup. so now i dont know if i want to just add the FI to the stock engine and run it like that for a while, or install the 427 that i really want and wait a year or so before i install the s/c. dont know which step to take first. and i dont know how much hp a low compression 427 will put out.

I would start with that and work my way up from it. If you are going to run a supercharger, it will determine your ultimate power output. The more CI you run, the easier it is to get to a given goal, but the s/c will determine the upper limit. Honestly once you start going over 15 psi if boost, some people start having problems with the heads lifting. Some people makeit much higher than that, but once you break that threshhold, problems start becoming more prevelant. The question you have to ask yourself is how much power do you want out of it? Oncec you have determined that, then call a shop or builder of your choice and talk it over with him. If you are looking to really push the limit, the choices of builders becomes much smaller. If you are looking to stay under ~700 rwhp, fire away with most any low compression shortblock.
Remember you have 2 choices: Fast, Reliable, or Cheap. You can only have 2!!

wow those prices are very expensive, wouldn't it be easier to just go with an older iron big block. Hell I've built a few Buick big blocks and they are expensive, but in comparision, not as much as those. Of course your getting better technology and quality builds, but if all your after is horsepower, might want to look around at other options

I was also just checking on prices for the 455's and they have certainly gone up some since last I checked 10 years ago
This one is 10 grand http://www.trishieldperf.com/level_1a_engine.htm put out 575 lb-ft and 556 horses on a 230/234 cam
I guess if your going to pay that much, might as well and pay a few grand more and go with the newer LX engine for all its advantages.

That is sick to look at the differences on the same engine with a single plane/headers to a dual plane/stock manifolds!

u can get the LS7 crate engine for like $13k, but its not the best deal considering u can build a LS1 to be bigger and faster for less money.
