Default Rocker Bolts?

so... I took my valve cover off and i took the rockers off because i thought my push rods were makin a noise so i popped off the rockers and checked them all... no bends so I put it all back totether... torqued the bolts to 22 ft lbs and put it all back together... started it up and it started knockin... a few of the rockers had come loose... so i took em off re-torqued it down and did it again... again a few more rockers came loose... so i started the car with the valve cover off and watched it... ahgai na few more came loose so i torqued them down and craked it over again and eventually they all got tight...but what made these bolts back off? valve position? it seems ok now what should i do?

Default Try Locktite!

I would try cleaning the threads in the threads/holes and use a little blue locktite.

BTW, I had one come loose and I thought it was a rod brering it was so loud.

I'd use just a little dab, don't want to go too crazy. Careful though too, because I overtorqued my Harland Sharps and I broke two rocker arm bolts.

Loctite won't hold unless you, a) clean the bolt, b) clean the bolt hole. Otherwise its a waste of time. Overtightening is a recipe for disaster. Remove all rockers, clean all the bolts and the bolt holes (keep them in the correct position when off the car). Rotate the motor to TDC on #1 and then follow the GM procedure tightening to 22 lb-ft the correct rockers, rotate the crank 1 turn and then do the rest. Use Loctite 242 (medium strength).

actually now that i think about it.... if i torque down the rocker bolts to 22 ft lbs and start the car of course some will be loose because i torques some down at the highest expansion point for the springs and then when the springs compress the rocker just kinda flails around....and unseats and becomes loose... so if i torque them then crank the car via key and crank them again and then repeat untill i can let it run without any tapping that should work right?

or you could just put a socket on the crank and turn until the rockers are in the right position, ensuring that each one if torqued correctly.

I did it this way following the firing order (see the cam install guide at LS1howto.com). I put the #1 cylinder at top dead center and torqued down the 4 rockers on 1 & 6, rotate 90, then do 8 & 5, rotate 90, then do 7 & 4, rotate 90, and finish up with 3 & 2. Rotate the motor over by hand a couple times and then double check the torque using the same process. Some will say this isn't necessary. But, it helps me with piece of mind.
