Default Are Comp XR lobes still good?

I'm looking at a comp 228/230 .571/.573 on a 112LSA with their XR lobe...Is this grind still as good as the same cam but with XER lobes? Is this cam still a proven performer and will i make good low end power? Also what is the rpm range for this cam and where does power peek?

It's confusing because there's XE lobes and XE-R lobes. The XE-R's are more aggressive and a little harder on the springs IIRC. The XE lobes won't open the valves as fast because it's a less aggressive ramp rate, which will affect power under the curve.

Did I get it right, Predator?

XE lobes are softer of the seat thus easier on the springs, you generally see a loss in tq with a softer lobe.

My estimate would be 360 whp through a ls1 intake or 370-375 through an ls6, less if you have a big stall.

Great Tq from 3000-5500 rpm

How will a TSP 228R on a 112 with XE-R lobes of course compare to this cam in terms of power and where it makes it? 228/228 .588/.588

The major difference between that cam and the one in your original post is going to be under the curve. The should peak within 5~10rwhp of each other with the XE-R cam being better due to slightly more lift. Under the curve however, the XE-R cam will most likely out perform due to its more aggressive ramp rates. In other words, more air can get past the valves early on with the XE-R cam. More air (when added with more fuel) means more power.

You should check the dyno section, check the sponsor websites, etc. There are dyno sheets and numbers posted for many, many setups. I'm sure a little looking could answer a lot of these types of questions.

I have that exact cam that you are asking about. I really like it. It seems to have stock power down low and come on hard about 3k. I haven't got it dynoed yet but will this summer when the shop gets their dyno all set up. My mail order tune is getting me by but I think I will get alot more power yet after the real tune.

yes I thought I did for a while. I have since heard two cammed LS1 cars and now realize mine sounds quiet compared to others. I had not ever heard a cammed ls1 so I didn't know what it was supposed to sound like. I really needed the 7.440 pushrods but since they don't make it in that size I went with the 7.425 so I will have a little ticking.
