LS1 Tech guys,help build budjet 6.0
My friend is going back to racing, after stopping 2 years ago.The truck he using to race is a 1986 Chevy single cab short bed.It is all lighten up already. It had 4.56 gears with a Th350.it had a small block 350 before and it ran a 12.20 constantly. We actually build that truck on scrap parts we had laying around.Well now we have a factory 6.0 out of a 2003 Chevy Silverado.Engine is on engine stand ready for mods.It has a victor jr intake,\ with msd controls,750cfm carb,no accesories are going to be ran.I have a set of stock 241 ls1 heads to work with besides the factory 317 6.0 heads.Help us choose a cam for this setup ,milled heads for more compression?which heads?pocket porting? Its an all out drag truck, but with spare parts keep in mind, any help or input is welcomed.

Here's some really good results with some Patriot heads (best heads for on a budget) and a big cam. I think Patriot is running intro pricing on their LS6 heads last I saw.

I'm going to be modding a 6.0L LQ9 myself and looking at those PP LS6 style heads at 59cc makes me want to get those and a Fast 90/90. I'm looking at this cam (231/240 .643/.608 112+4), which I know I'll need to flycut. I'm also looking at L92/L76 but there is a limit on the cam size to really take advantage of that combo.
Anymore input from the Gurus are welcomed.

You guys can't read.
I would stay with the 6.0 heads because the chamber is bigger and should have better mid lift flow and mill them .030. I can't recall off the top of my head, but the valves in the 241 might be better. Use the valves that have a backcut on them and obviously in the best shape. Use some lapping compound and see if the valves seal good. If they don't, get a valvejob or atleast touch up the seat.
It's a truck so I would go with a mild cam between 224-230 on a 112. Build for torque. I've gone 10.82 on the stock shortblock with self ported heads and a little old 224 .535 lift 112 cam. And I was using a 4400 stall shifting at 6800. The small cam will drop off a little sooner than that, but the single plane will help to extend the rpm range a bit and you need the power in the mid range I think more.

Oh forgot the porting port. Most gains are in the bowl and valveguide area. Widen the straight wall side, blend the bowl, and narrow the guides and you'll get a good gain out of it. All pull back the swirl ramp.
