I switched from Mobil-1 5W-30 to (www.ElfOils.us) Elf Solaris RNX 5W-30 in my Cadillac CTS-V (LS6 engine). Did a bit of work/spreadsheet to compare the various synthetic brands (info garnered from each oil manufacturers web site product data sheets with standardized testing) for viscosity at 40C and 100C, viscosity index (how well an oil holds properties under heat and pressure), pour point (not a huge issue), flash point and Zinc and Phosporous content (the zinc and phosphorus makes up the anti-wear additive ZDDP, zinc dialkyl dithiosphosphate). Elf Solaris covers all the bases exceptionally well.

For you guys using the German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (their real synthetic not the other BS "synthetic" Castrol sells in the US) look at the Elf Excellium 0W-30 as it beats the Castrol hands down. In fact Elf's 0W-30 Excellium outperforms many 5W-30 synthetics. My neighbor just swithced his highly tuned Audi A4 (turbo) that does a bit of track work from the Castrol to the Elf Excellium.

Good luck and Happy Motoring!

Mark "Feff" Pfeffer

I have used GC 0w-30, RP 5w-30, and M1 0w-40(currently in the car). I like them all the same.
