Default Hydrolocked...$6k to fix...HELP

I hydrolocked my engine a couple of months ago..I was given 6k to fix.....Where do I start.

Can I rebuild or do you suggest I get another motor?

Thanks!

What were the end results of the hydrolock? What happened to the engine?

I'd just buy a forged short block from either TSP or SDPC. About $3300 out the door & then swap over all accessories & stock heads/intake for now. That'll get you back on the road at half the cost quoted to you. That is if you do the work.

Go to scoggin dickey and look at the LS6 service replacement engine, I hydrolocked mine two years ago, went that route, no regrets, I preferred mine closer to stock than a radical rebuild. The motor is 5400, so the 6k should cover it, it you do the r&r yourself.

Also, what ever stock parts (crank, rods, pistons, block) are still good can be sold.

God bless insurance I suppose.
DO NOT REBUILD THE MOTOR!
What you have at this point is a clean slate. If you have any experience, or friends with it, pull the engine yourself. That will free up considerable funds for your project. My suggestion is as follows...
1. An LS2 402 with moderate heads/cam and high compression with a nitrous kit.
2. If your block is rebuildable, go forged on the internals and low compression. Use the leftovers to get a cheap turbo kit (possibly STS).
Many thanks,

Whats a basic head/cam pak thats not too wild, I take the car to the track about 4-5 times a year. I was thingking on going this way with a set of long tubes as well....

Well for $6k I definitely would not get anything from a junkyard. Do a new forged motor.

TSP is a good option. Do NOT get the LS6 replacement deal. What a rip off.

I'm with everyone else. Get a built motor from one of our vendors. If you can't afford that, get a good short block and swap your current heads onto it, if you don't have the $$$ to upgrade.

well you have an established budget, now for the next logical step. what do you want out of your car? 400rwhp, 500rwhp? daily driver or weekend warrior? dont throw money in the dark when you dont know what you want. you may not need a forged motor, I know I wanted a 400rwhp+ car and did it for 2300$ but I didnt use forged internals because I'll never use the spray and dont see the need for it.

Well I had a rod go through both sides of my block and played the waiting game. I was gonna find a bare block and build from there with heads/cam and all that good stuff but it never happened. so I waited a wee longer, and aha! speed inc was selling 2 motors for 2k a piece. a lingenfelter motor with 8k out of a corvette that made 376rwhp and an 02 ws6 motor with 32k on it making 411rwhp. I got the one from the WS6, and swapped out the cam for the 228R and it had ported ls1 heads from ARE with all the goodies. pushrods springs, the works.

quote: Always upgrade never replace.

Get a forged 347 shortblock. ~ $2800 outright.
Get a set of 243 casting ported LS6 heads $1000
Get a GT2-3 LPE cam $350
Get complete gasket kit for rebuilt $ 350

That leaves $1500 for miscalleneous and tuning after the motor is back together. You have now a nice 400rwhp motor that idles like stock.
