Default Hotcam & 1.8 rockers

Has anyone used 1.8 rockers with a hotcam? Did you use the springs that came with the kit? Looking for any feedback. TIA

Ken, the benefit of using the 1.8 rockers with a hotcam does not outweigh the cost. In my opinion, get a bigger cam.

Hey Ryan long time no hear. I agree with you on the cost issue, but if the results were close enough to switching to a larger cam AND you didn't have to change springs it wouldn't be too far off as far as total cost go(price for hotcam vs. other cam packages. Anyway the Hotcam is in for the time being and was just curious because how quickly you can swap rockers. Good to here from you

I love this quote, so if the guy wants the benefits of a roller tip, and less flex of stock casting rocker, he shouldn't upgrade to a 1.8 roller tip rocker? I am sorry but the above quote is played out on this board, there is more to a cam than just lift, some people are looking for other benefits, besides the lift.

Hey, if you feel like spending the money just for getting a roller tip, then more power to you. The 1.8 rockers are similar to stock castings, unless you want to go with some Yella Terras or Jesels. I believe this post was concerning the benefits of increased lift with 1.8 rockers on a hotcam, not the advantage of .5 horsepower gained with a roller tip. Played out? Ya think?
Ken, how is the hotcam working for you? You still keeping that ride spotless as usual

Yeah Ryan I am a clean freak when it comes to that car lol. The cam is working good,It's been in two weeks now and I sort of wish I had gone a little bigger though. I installed the predator tune last night and raised the limiter. I'm thinking of going to dynolab Thurs. to see what those two changes get me. Ken

I am thinking that going from 1.7 to 1.8 is going to net more than .5 hp, Yella Terras have demostrated a 6-8hp gain just with the stock 1.7 ratio, because of less flex. Not to mention less valvetrain stress, nothing like taking the stress off the valve stem, which also increases the valve seal life. Too many benefits of roller rocker tip over the stock casting, and why not add a little more lift in there while your at it. Still going to be cheaper than buying a whole new cam and all the consumables to go with it. Plus your going to benefit from reliability and longevity. Cams are losing up to .025 in lift to the stock rockers, I think if I paid for a .561 lift and only got .540, then whats the point.

Not starting an argument here, but .5 hp is what you might free up by going to roller tips, not from 1.7 to 1.8. IMO, keep the hotcam the way it is. Investing in a set of 1.8 rockers is not worth the expense, and I also believe that with small lift cams (.550" and lower) a roller tip just isn't useful. Sure if you plan on putting 200,000 miles on your motor, then they may help a little. But as I said before this is only my opinion, and if you think it's worth it, then go ahead.

to answer the spring question, if ur using the hotcam springs, change them... they r only good for .525" lift... the 02+ ls6 springs should be good to either .551" or .571", depending on who u ask, and ur hotcam with 1.8's will be at .556", so change them...
