Default Is There A Solution To The ''Sewing Machine" Sound

GC oil has nothing to do with it. In fact that made my valve train a lot noiser. But i have in there 7.425" PRs.. Someone said that i should have went with 7.4" PRs...

Any idea on how to quiet the valve train? I am not sure if it could be a lifter or what...

Don't guess, measure for the required lifter preload, get it set properly and you're valve train will be nice and quiet. If you an agressive acm lobe and high lift you'll hear it a little but will be pretty darn quiet if set up correctly.

taklked with a lot of people, they all said 7.425" would be perfect.

it is a 228/232 .588/.595

The easiest way to get rid of the sewing machine sound is to put on loud exhaust.

I understand, but in my view there are three ways of setting the preload: Fair, good, and best. For fair; you estimate, get estimates and recommendations and go with it - you may be just fine. For good; you measure one or two valves - intake and exhaust - and get the pushrod that will put you in the .065 to.090 range. For best, you measure all 16 and use the pushrods that will put every valve in the .075 to .085 range. Mine were different by .010 to .020 on several of the valves and the whole train needed .025 more. Once I did that, with the hood closed - you virtually could not hear the valves - made a huge difference.

Now, to a certain degree, you cannot make a 588 595 valve train (I assume an XER type lobe) silent - but you can make them only as noisy as they have to be.

I have the same issue. I just upgraded my lifters to the Cadilac high performance lifters hoping it would go away. It made no change to the sound. I was thinking windage tray but I know it was clearnanced. I have attached the sound that my car makes does your sound like it? I have tried everything. My car has over 5k miles with a few track passes and lots of high speed rolls. I figured it would have blown up by now. There is no metal shavings on my drain plug. I am just tired of the noise. The car runs great I just hate how it sounds.

They are non adjustable rockers. I am using stck 6.0 heads and a small cam. The engine shop put 7400 in. What is weird is the sound is coming more from the bottom end not the top.

I would seriously measure the preload - I'd be willing to bet you are least .025 short on the PRs.

Kaneman mines at LEAST as loud as yours. I had longer pushrods in there and it was quiet but according to my tuner and engine builder lots of pre load is quiet but hurts performance and is not as durable. I had to change valvesprings anyways so when I did I checked the pre load and I was at .100 with a 7.4 so i backed it off to .50 with a 7.35 and it runs great but LOUD!!

it does run stronger up top though. Hope this is okay because the noise scares the **** out of me HAHA

Mines only audible at idle but it sounds EXACTLY like yours and its definitely valvetrain because it came the day I shortened the PR's

My car has always runs great and you can not hear it at WOT just idle. I have Yellow Terra non adjustable rockers what is the easiest way to check pre load?

I had teh Comp R lifters in my car and with all of the reading I did you should have adjustable rockers with them because the pre load is a lot different then stock. I switched to the LS7 lifter hoping the noise would go away but no change which I thought was weird.

I am just glad that other people are having this issue. If it really is just pushrod length then cool, but the sound comes more from the bottom of the engine then the top.
