Default piston and block ????

ok i have a 2000 z28 stock bottomend with a cam. i pulled the heads off yesterday and the piston is sticking out of the block about 1/16- 1/8th of and inch. should it be sticking out that far and is this normal???

No, they usually stick out .005 to .010. If youre serious about 1/16 - 1/8 then something is not right.... or at least not stock.

Yeah, my block was decked and my pistons only stuck out about .015".

Also is it only that one piston? check out the others.

That cant be right.... thats at least 0.0625 (1/16 inch). If that were so, your pistons would hit your heads every time the motor turned over, so that wouldnt be physically possible.You should go get a dial indicator and a deck bridge and check it out, and that will probably give you a little more accurate measurement.

i will take a pic tonight and put it up to show everyone. i broke a valve spring and the valve hit the piston. well, i thought i could just replace the springs and the valves and get the head all worked over again then put it back together and it would work. well, it sounded like i spun a bearing when i put it all back together so i decided to pull it all back apart again and found the piston sticking up that far.

My guess is something broke internally. Not sure how it still held togather. Time to really pull **** apart.

Do the other pistons come up just as far? Or is this one mysteriously trying to jump out and abandon ship?
